I find all of this sad and interesting. I cannot think of another conflict where both sides REALLY want to play the victim as badly as Israeli's and Palestinians. First - a fair number of people in Palestine support Hamas. All of them? No... half? I don't know - but if the choice is Hamas or Israel, many would choose Hamas. The Palestinians basically get to choose between two abusers. Second - I keep reading and hearing Israeli's and Jews that are shocked that the world isn't on their side. Maybe they should look at the historical actions of Israel towards the Palestinians and they would have a better understanding. The West and the world owes Israel nothing. There is nothing special about Israel, they are not the center of the world like many Israeli's believe. They are not the only group in the Middle East that did not or do not have a home. Third - the media from the IDF and Palestine has been terrible.
From October 7 to April 3 there were 455 confirmed Palestinian deaths in the West bank.......these are folks who are not part of hamas nor ever voted for hamas. Israel throughout its history has dealt with thousands of terrorist attacks all with three wars meant to wipe it out. Since October 7 tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, their homes destroyed, and starved. They’ve been bombed even in places they were told were safe. In the West Bank Israel has announced seizures of several acres of land from Palestinians. This is on top of decades of land seizures from Palestinians to build settlements with anpolicy meant to deliberately cripple Palestinian economic development, sovereignty and make it impossible for them to establish autonomy. On top of the formation of a country they had no say in forming with millions of them driven to being refugees. Both those are true. Depending on what lense you view the conflict has whether you view it as a war of western civilization versus Islamic barbarism or as a war of poor people versus colonial oppressors that ends up defining who you think is the victim and who is the villain.
