I've been watching football for a long time now, but am only just now getting into the X's and O's of things to understand plays (mainly due to Madden). I was trying to find websites that broke down plays at a basic level that would help me comprehend the intricacies of what was going on. I came across this website http://www.syedschemes.com/texans-zone-stretch-arian-fosters-td-cut/ and had some questions for anyone that could answer. -As the author mentioned in his breakdown, our coach BOB seems to have kept some of Kubiak's old plays in. Has this been a common occurence this year? Has BOB added new wrinkles to the offense that hasn't been there before? Are we still a zone blocking scheme? -In this play the author states that the O line played it to perfection. To me it seems like the O line this year has been bad in pass protection. Everytime Fitzpatrick drops back to pass someone is already in the backfield. Do you guys think the O line has had consistently good play this year? Also in this play it seems like Newton was supposed to block number #98 and didn't. Was this by design? And has Newton improved at all from last year? Any answers would be much welcomed. Just trying to be a better student of the game. Thank you.
