For those of you watching the game on NBA TV yesterday, did you see the four-second clip of JVG and Yao during the game intro (right after Deion's Hot Dog infomercial)? JVG had a smile so big it looked like he won the lottery. He was kidding around with Yao and he slapped him some skin to boot! Two things: (1) That's the first time I saw that clip (not sure when it's from). (2) I have never seen JVG with such a giddy look on his face. Interestingly enough, it made me think of another situation last year. I was at a Rocks game in PHX, right behind the Rocks' bench. During a timeout after a particularly pathetic display of rebounding and team defense, the team gathers for a huddle. JVG spends the first 5+ seconds of the huddle staring at Mo Taylor. He's just staring at the guy while everyone is waiting for him to talk about the next play or whatever. That's not good chemistry. I'm telling you right now, this team has some damn good vibes in the clubhouse. Instead of calling people out after a pathetic loss, JVG is talking about love?! This did not happen with last year's (or early this year) team. I don't know about a championship, but this team has talent, chemistry, and an approach to the game that is fun to watch. I can't ask for anything else as a fan. I digress. Just thought a little optimism is warranted before the end of our three-game losing streak.
It's too bad the roster's so old and much of the rotation will have to be replaced shortly. If we can even bring back guys like Barry and Deke, they and Wesley will probably be gone or non-factors after next season.
I'm sure we will sign other seasoned veterans, but that doesn't mean we can duplicate the chemistry of the current team which has seemed to be pretty special.
