Anthony Bennett was the top pick ahead of Greek freak and Gobert in 2013. Yeesh. Although that helped the cavs suck enough to get lucky in the 2014 lottery. I'd give a slight nod to Towns. But Giannis is entertaining as hell to watch.
Give me a shooter. Greek Freak's highest ceiling is a poor man's version of LeBron and we all saw what happened in the Finals. You need him to become Durant -- a silky smooth shooter and efficient scorer. Those skills are not there at age 23 and most likely will never happen. 27% 3-point shooter is not going to much damage in this league.
Giannis is imo the best player in the NBA to build around right now. His 3pt shot has been improving steadily. He only hit 2% better this season, but he shot it almost twice as much, which is good but not great progress. To be honest, even if I knew he would top out at 35% on low volume, I would pick him first in a draft. At PF - which, to me, is clearly his natural position defensively - that's enough of a threat coupled with his elite ability to drive past virtually any PF or even SF in the league. Kat is up there too. Both great youngsters. You can't really show your full value until you're on a very good team. Neither of them have had that opportunity, but KAT will get that chance now. Milwaukee will do great in the East but will still not be a top 10 NBA team imo. The Bucks have been great at experimenting with Giannis though. I would try the opposite of what they've been trying though. I would try him at the 5 next season and bank on his skill/speed far outweighing his strength disadvantage. Play Parker at the 4, Middleton at the 3, Brogdon and Dellavedova in the backcourt. Even teams that go small would probably struggle to keep up with those 5 and that's the kind of electric identity that suits the personality of their players imo.
Antetokounmpo will do alot of things better than KAT who has decent guard skills but aint that mobile in comparison. Playmaking Stealing Scoring Ballhandling
Towns is currently the better offensive player, IMO, and in a few years should be just as impactful as Giannis on defense. I actually think that he's the perfect 5 for today's NBA. He'd be my choice. Doesn't mean Giannis isn't a stud.
I think Towns is a really versatile center with a higher ceiling so I lean towards him. That said, I do love versatility and it's easier to build a roster when you have a guy who can play positions 1-4
