Really?? Having a lot of followers = a good thing?? I wonder how atheists feel about religious people then.

Oh yeah he totally isn't racist or xebophobic considering that arno_ed just pointed out that he's intolerant. Additionally, none of the comments in that article screamed prejudice and intolerance. Keep on fighting, brahh..

Seriously, are you ok buddy?? You seem to have gone off the deep end.

    Are you trolling??
Have you taken a basic history class that covers WWII?

I don't even know how to begin to address this. This is quite possibly the most blatantly ignorant statement I have ever seen.

I did not say it is a good thing. There are plenty of evil people who have or had a lot of followers. But it is noteworthy that apparently a lot of people are following him - and it would be interesting to analyze the reasons for that.

I will try to write an objective piece on Wilders, however I have to say that is difficult because I haven't disliked a person this much in a long time (besides perhaps Bush, but that is a different discussion).

He is married to a dutch-hungarian woman. I do not know much about that.

He is a racist. He blames muslims for every problem that occurs in the Netherlands. He only blames muslims for this. He is also very xenophobic. I do not think Wilders actually believes all the things he says, but if he does believe them he is a very xenophobic and racist person. I think he uses the anti-muslim idea's that are present in many western cultures to his advantage in order to get power.

I understand why some people compare him to Hitler. he does tries to blame a specific group for problems they had nothing to do with. He also uses fear in order to get support. That being said, I do not believe Wilders is similar to Hitler, since i do not believe he actually believes everything he says. He just knows that this is a way to become popular and get attention. It is stupid that people always compare people they do not agree with with Hitler, like he is the only bad person in the world, even if they are nothing like Hitler (for example some people compare Obama with Hitler).

He doesn't care about free speech. He only uses uses the whole free speech comments to put himself in the role of the victim. He doesn't believe in free speech when others mention him alongside Hitler, or when they say bad things about him. Furthermore he want to ban the Quran. So he is not an advocate of free speech, even though he want people to believe that. In wilders case "respect the law" means stop being Muslim.

So why is Wilders popular (because he is popular). He is very good in one-liners. he tells everybody that he is not part of the normal dutch politics (a.k.a the Sarah Palin tactis). And he knows how to use fear. Furthermore there are to many dutch who are easily manipulated, and do not like to think for themselve. Wilders is a very smart man, he knows how to use the victim card, how to use fear and how to use the anti Islam seentiments that are present in to many people in the Netherlands. And it is working, we have an election in June and he is one of the 3 big parties who have a chance to win the election.

IMHO Wilders is dividing the dutch in order to get power and attention. He does not care what is best for this country. I believe we should all work together to make a better country, not trying to blame certain groups. The Polarization of the ducth has not been this bad in many years, and I believe Wilders is responsible for that. So that is the reason why I dislike him.

arno_ed, thanks for your comments. Can you answer this question:

Why would a rational man subject himself to death threats, sleep somewhere else every night out of fear of getting murdered, only see his wife and family every two weeks or so, if he doesn't believe in what he says?

With due respect to Grizzled that sounds a lot like Grizzled's argument for proof of God(s) by citing how many people are religious.

In both cases just that a lot of people hold a belief is not proof that the belief is true.

Actually with due respect to Grizzled is at least talking something uplifting and uniting while you seem to be arguing about something divisive.

Have you considered that he may not be rational?

I believe he really want the power/attention. I would never do such a thing. But some people have different priorities.

I do not think he doesn't believe anything he said. But I believe he doesn't believe everything he says.
