Season 8 won't even air until sometime next year. So keep something in reserve; you have something of a wait ahead of you.
Maybe the actors get some blame, but the writing is definitely and significantly worse than it had been.
Season 1-6 : Plot thick medieval show based in authenticity and political moves to gain tactical advantages over other houses including marriage, betrayal and the fine lines between honor and duty. Season 7: MOOARRR DRAGONS RAWRRRRR
This is a good synopsis. I thought Season 7 moved too fast and lacked the dialogue, strategy and cunning that Seasons 1-6 offered. Seasons 1-6 were often criticized as slow moving, but that slow pace is what made several of the seminal moments of the show as climactic as they were. Also, knowing that no one is safe from bad things happening to them offers the show an unpredictability that you don't get from other shows.
This is why I’m setting myself up for disappointment for the finale. They’ve just gone away from what made the show great (slow methodical burn), neutered some of the best characters (Tyrion, Spider, Baelish), and created a love arc that’s so sell-out Hollywood. It’s essentially become apologetic fan fiction. It’s why I want to throw up in my mouth when people complain about Better Call Saul moving “too slow”.
That "sell out" love arc has always been the final destination for the entire series, the show didn't just make this up. Those 2 are the title characters of the series.
