http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15068692 Imagine a nation full of Swoly-D's, and then blaming the rich because the American middle class can't compete with Asia. This problem needs to be addressed immediately, or there will be dire consequences for all involved.
I think this article leaves out a very important statistic. What is the percentage of hispanic children who are here illegally? I would bet its probably a low percentage overall - although admittedly higher in some areas of the country. so connecting this article to the poll at the top is a bit unfair since the poll only addresses Illegal Immigrants, who only 50% are from Latin America. I think they should be treated as 2 separate problems.
Agreed, but why not knock out two birds with one thread? You have the question in the poll, and you have the other issue: How will America address giving access to higher education to Latino's, who will eventually be the largest ethnic group in the workforce. How will America bolster it's middle class?
on illegals, another problem for Christie is stated the facts on the situation. they aren't going anywhere. so it really would be a waste to try to separate them from the equation
Not surprised Juan isn't up to date with his Hispanic current events... he always struck me as a self loather. As a citizen of the world I try to equally empathize with all races, all socio-economic classes, in all situations. Essentially the poll asks whether affirmative action should be increased for Hispanics, or whether they should be on the same playing field as other disadvantaged groups. There is much debate among politicians and policy makers about whether Hispanic children should get special attention or whether they should be treated like any other low income group in terms of educational inequity. Whichever way that particular debate shakes out one thing is for certain - the political power of Hispanics is rising. Politicians cannot afford to ignore these challenges much longer. President Obama tried and failed in 2010 to pass the Dream Act - a law that would give undocumented Latino students, brought to the US as children, the right to US citizenship so they can attend University. "This is not just a Latino problem; this is an American problem. We've got to solve it because if we allow these trends to continue, it won't just be one community that falls behind - we will all fall behind together," says President Obama. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2188626/posts http://www.nctm.org/news/content.aspx?id=27539
Look, if the Guidos can more or less assimilate and become somewhat productive citizens and reality show characters, the Latinos should be able to do it, too.
"The Hispanic Problem"? All people should be treated equally by the law. If the state wants to provide people with education, they shouldn't exempt certain people, regardless of their justifications. Illegal immigration should be legalized.
