Former Astros general manager Spec Richardson has died. He was 93.

Per the Associated Press, the Muscogee County (Ga.) coroner's office confirmed that Richardson died at his home in Columbus due to natural causes.

Richardson served as Astros GM from 1967-75. The team didn't make the playoffs during his tenure, with just two winning seasons in nine years.

Richardson's reign was known for some disastrous trades, most notably the 1971 deal that sent future Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan to Cincinnati in a trade that is considered the worst in Astros history.

Richardson also traded away outfielder Rusty Staub, who became a star in Montreal, and pitcher Mike Cuellar, who became a key part of Baltimore's early 1970s powerhouse.

Richardson also served as the Giants GM from 1976-80 and was named MLB's executive of the year in 1978. Among his notable deals there was acquiring Vida Blue for seven players and cash from Oakland.

Richardson is the second former Astros GM to die in the past 13 months. Al Rosen, who was Astros GM from 1980-85, died on March 13, 2015. He was 91.

Before my time, but sounds he used the Astros (Colt 45s) as a tune up.

Former Astros dying all at once, but they lived long lives.
