Sketchy stuff. Where there's smoke, there's fire... Let's see how he handles the Astros, assuming the transfer goes through.

Even with this deal, I read the Astros don't fall among the franchises that have the highest percentage of debt to value. The Rangers and Mets are on that list.

Can't say I am not a little concerned but i'll wait and see what happens before passing judgement on him as a baseball owner. As a human being....

Uncle D sold the Astros to the devil.

I'll read the rest of the article later, I stopped after "The Astros' new owner hates black people."

Uncle Drayton catches heat for fielding the only team in MLB not featuring a black player, then later sells the team to a racist.

    I don't like this.

I, for one, am pretty disappointed that Jim Crane would be unwilling to replace Carlos Lee with a child-bearing age woman.

For such a racist the local NAACP seem to be ok with Crane or at least as the article states "getting comfortable" with him.

    This guy voted for Obama.

That's what you get when you buy a high priced PR firm.

Wow, didn't know that about Nixon, as my impression of him pretty much limits to watergate and foreign policy matters.

How we went from Nixon to Reagan in one term is quite amazing.

    Oops, wrong thread.

So I might as well chime in on this one. Don't particularly care about Crane as long as he spends and defer to his baseball people. I mean, I may have a problem if he's as publically bad as Sterling or Schott. And even then it may not matter much if we can get back to the playoffs under him.

You'd expect somebody worth hundreds of millions of dollars to be a little more ethical.

So are fans now going to start getting pitched ponzi schemes at Astros games?

No, but Astros clinics will now consist of lessons on war profiteering, shady accounting practices, and how to bribe a government official without getting caught.

Really? I thought it was the other way around. That it's hard to be a multi-millionaire without being shady.

Quick pop quiz: who was the first MLB owner to hire an African-American GM?

Moreover, I looked up-and-down through the article for this phrase or a synonym and could not find it. This kind of escalated hyperbole ("hate?" really??) does *not* help in what is already an emotionally charged discussion.

Due to an ugly history that we all wish we could change but cannot, it's impossible not to get emotionally invested and as such extremely difficult to remain objective.

But please: please do. A discussion like this can get so ugly, so fast.

Not to defend the guy--if that stuff is true then he is pond scum and is without excuse. It was also ten years ago, and a lot of folks defended him, so maybe things aren't what they seem.

Let us see how he handles business moving forward.
