"Great" garbage man? Let's be real: Great and Chuck don't belong in the same book if you are talking about basketball.

Detroit has to worry about Billups, McDyess, Webber, Murray, and Amir Johnson first. With Prince and Hamilton, they don't have a strong need for Bonzi.

There's also gotta be questions if Bonzi can get it back. Guys like Kemp and Vin Baker in the past have ballooned and never gotten back to their previous glory. I could see him getting a 1 or 2 year full MLE deal, but 5 years for Bonzi is a risky proposition.

Would you give a guy coming off a season like that a 5 year, 32 million dollar deal? Stranger things have happened, but I wouldn't bet on it.

OK, for arguments sake, let's say "good", but was Rambis "great", how about Kelly Tribuka or AC Green? IMHO, none of them were, but all made significant contibutions to their respective teams.

I think Bonzi will get a 3 year deal max if he is in top shape by the start of training camp -- baggage, weight, and age as has been mentioned.

Chuck doesn't measure up to Rambis or Green. Don't remember Tripuka's NBA career well enough; he was decent at Notre Dame. Look, I like Chuck too but I'm just being objective. He is so unskilled on offense it's shameful. Plus, he's short, not very fast and can't jump. That makes him the definition of expendable. How many PFs in the NBA have SGs or SFs go over their back and snag rebounds?

Yes you are right, he has good court vision. Not Tmac level, but good. Goes along with that high bball IQ. Cliff Hawkins was the third perimeter player. Chuck and Eric Daniels played a high/low post game in Chuck's junior year. Daniels was the dunker inside and Hayes was the assist man up at the free throw line most of the time. He and Daniels played off one another really well.

When he was forced to play so many minutes at the center position his senior year (because Randolph Morris was always in foul trouble) his assists went down a bit. So did a lot of his time away from the basket. Tubby's offense was a lot like JVG's in Chuck's senior year... not the prettiest thing to watch... but Chuck was basically a "cut back and forth across the lane, wait for the outside shooters to jerk up a three, get the rebound and put it back up" guy for that entire season.

If you go back and look at some of the video of his junior season, and in fact also his sophomore season, you can see a bit more of what he is capable of a farther away from the basket than four feet.

As far as being resigned... I think he will be the last one they decide on. Duffy will shop him around the league I am sure, but I don't think anyone is going to offer him more than what the Rockets would. My guess, is that they will see who they can get in the draft and in trades and THEN if they can't find anyone with more upside they will sign Chuck.

I honestly don't think Bonzi is going to be that big of a FA draw again this off season, so hopefully the Rockets give him a wee bit more money (not much more cause he's a risk.. though less of one this year than he was last year because of the coaching situation) and keep him in Houston. He can play for a new contract here better than most anywhere else.

They're probably talking about salary. Well in my opinion Bonzi wil stay here because of Adelman. I can't wait until tomorrow and I really hope Bonzi wil stay. He is a great player and he said he wants to stay in Houston, so...

    Please Bonzi, stay here

    Good point!

If we could get Wells back under his current contract, you could then still make the Juwan for Mike James trade and then still have the full MLE to use on a solid bench rotation player. That would go a long way on adding more weapons to the team.

that's not a bad idea but remember what happened last time we had a lot of FA's by the same agent:

    cato, taylor, anderson, moochie.

We both agree here but to read some the posts around here, one gets the distinct impression that it was JVG who held back this team of offensive dynamos...

I get the distinct impression that JVG was their God, doing no wrong.

This is the problem I have with chuck. These "layups" people keep talking about him working on and getting better at should be DUNKS! When your 6'6" playing the 4, it is really hard to make these hard fast layups. Throwing down a fast dunk is much easier if you have that ability to do so. Yes, I know he can dunk but not at the level he needs to in the post with these backdoor cuts. I really hope we can keep Chuck, I think he can be one of the most efficient back up 4's in the NBA. My hope for the starting 4 (thats realistic) would be Wilcox or Nene but I'd even settle for Reggie Evans at this point. One of those three starting and Chuck coming off the bench would be great. Yao at the 5 with hopefully Deke backing him up and I think the Rox just need one more big man that can play both 4 and 5. RA, bring back Horry, please! With Big Shot Bob you at least know his team will get to the second round. 15 straight years and counting.

That will never happen. He will be the luckiest guy in the world if anyone gives him more than what he is making right now.

For whoever said we should trade for Mike James, why? Why do people continue to want these kind of players? They never work out.

At his size, Chuck is one of the best defending 4's in the league. Without question. (Not to mention the SEC Defensive POY in 2005) He plays against the top PF's in the NBA every night, and what they score on him, they earn.

Lets be real - Chuck was undrafted. Chuck just finished his first full season in the league.

So far, he has been great. And he's only gonna get better.

Man, I wish they could reach an agreement where we give them Bonzi and they give us Amir. That's the kind of PF we need.
We don't need another old or unathletic PF.

One of the best defending 4's in the league??? It's obvious someone forgot to tell the NBA's 29 other coaches...he didn't get one freaking vote for the NBA All Defensive team. 45 players received at least one vote. Hayes got nada.

You want to "be real"...accept the fact that Hayes isn't a rotational player on an elite WC team..let alone a starter. That's reality

I hope Morey will see Chuck's value and get him back.

Adelman, however has kind of a history of not making very good use of dedensive specialists.
