Absolutely. That movie was such a shame. When it comes to sweet Polly, I am not slow! It's hip hip hip and away I gooooo!
The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure was pretty sweet too, especially for the JLA and Teen Titans guest spots.
The entire Disney Afternoon back on Channel 39..remember when D. Solo used to host it back circa '90 - '91? Tale Spin, Darkwing Duck, Chip N Dale's Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Goof Troop, etc As for older stuff, Voltron, Transformers, TMNT Even older stuff: Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker (especially w/ the eps dealing with that Norwegian walrus that says 'ohhh fjord..', Droopy
Hell ya, I remember 39 Fun Time. That was a damn solid after school cartoon. There was also a period in time when I watched Fox Kids Club on Channel 26.
What was the name of the Dog that was a professor, and had the little boy as his helper, on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show? Dude... my kids don't even know who R & BW are...
Mr. Peabody...i used to like it more than the actual Rocky & Bullwinkle show? Well, that's pretty old stuff. That was one of those things i only saw because of reruns on nickelodean. i'm surprised no one's mentioned Garfield and Friends, Alvin and the chipmunks, or inspector gadget.
Old, but utterly superior. As were Popeye, all the old WB stuff and R&B. They were as good for adults as they were for kids. I mentioned some other old favorites out of nostalgia (Superfriends, H-B stuff), but by the time I was a kid (in the 70s) the only great cartoons - the ones that didn't talk down to kids or serve as a vehicle to sell toys - were only around in reruns. Until The Simpsons, which is why it was such a revelation. Since then we've had some great cartoons, mostly on Fox prime time and Adult Swim, but the stuff that went on just before I was a kid was utterly subversive without just being crude. It was utterly imaginative stuff.
Old school cartoons are great, i think networks just started taking on MORE cartoons to cater to different groups (girls, minorities, etc.). I would say Tom and Jerry takes the cake if it weren't for one HUGE weakness.
Roger Ramjet was the best of the old cartoons <object width="380" height="300"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AGLBtJJRCDc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AGLBtJJRCDc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="380" height="300"></embed></object>
Same tastes as RC Cola i think... Batman was amazing. So was Gargoyles and X-men. I actually think Gargoyles was the most underrated cartoon of our generation. It had all kinds of crazy stuff going on. Portrayed a complicated love story while having some awesome villains too.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles = favorite hands down. All the Looney Tunes. All the Hannah Barbera stuff... Scooby Doo, Huckleberry Hound, etc All the old Disney stuff with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc Jetsons Flintstones Rescue Rangers Duck Tales Talespin Goof Troop Bonkers Ghost Busters Biker Mice From Mars Garfield and Friends Animaniacs FTW! (Has anyone even mentioned them yet?) Gargoyles Simpsons Batman X-men Agree with Batman Jones though, the cartoons of back in the day... the Tex Avery, Popeye, Looney Tunes, Walt Disney type stuff was mostly superior to 95% of the crap cartoons that started being cranked out in the 90s. There were so many cartoons that came on and I'd just be like "This isn't funny, its just weird without being crude"
Bucky O'Hare. ...but since there were like, 10 episodes of that total, my other favorites were X-Men, Thundercats, and Ninja Turtles.
