I do like franks hot & HEB's house brand. Is there anything as commonly available that's significantly better?
When I worked at a wing place we always used Louisiana hot sauce as our base. They also make a sauce called cravin Cajun Wing sauce that is excellent.
My mom used to make this wing sauce with Louisiana Hot Sauce, butter, garlic and honey. It's pretty amazing but probably not what you're looking for.
Yeah I am looking for more traditional hot than La/cajun or other flavors, though I'm sure they're good too. I'm really not too picky- frank's hot is fine, and most restaurants' hottest or nearly hottest sauces I really like (except for some "atomic" flavors where I can't taste anything for the burn). The only reason I like making my own instead, is because even the dedicated wing places over cook them half the time, & they come out tougher than I prefer. I wish I just had access to their sauces, then fry my own. I can get the wings more crispy & tender than take out, but the couple of sauces I've tried so far probably aren't as good as most restaurants.
Hooter's has a sauce called Triple Dog Dare that's hot, but not burn-your-face-off hot and tastes like honey BBQ or something, so it's sweet and hot. By "hot", I'm not talking Louisiana hot sauce "hot" - I'm talking about a good dose of real heat. It's the best sauce I've had there. Not sure it's bottled, tho', so this may be useless to you.
Great, trying cheap ones first anyway- crystal & texas pete's tonight. Kroger's house brand will be next on my list. I saw hooter's on the shelf (no triple dog), & tony romas (little high), though I might not make it to those... I've got to start eating normal first, then just have a few as a snack instead of consuming a couple dozen in one sitting as a meal. This little experiment might be even more deadly than my county wide ribs binge tour.
