Man, that sucks. I would read the RMN from time to time (always on-line) to get Broncos info. If I am not mistaken, I think their coverage of the Broncos is a lot better than The Denver Post. Can't say that I am surprised though - I understand that Denver is a big city but it is debateable if they really needed more than 1 newspaper.
If the shrinking size of the Houston Chronicle is any sign of contributing advertisers dissipating, my guess is that they aren't doing that great either, and that's in Houston where they are the only major paper. Just my guess judging by how small the paper has gotten, over time.
I am a freshman at the University of Colorado and I had to do a poly sci paper including over 150 newspaper articles (it was a real b**** and pointless paper), but I used over half of my articles from the Rocky Mountain News. It was quite helpful to me, so I thank them for that.
it was inevitable that the internet and various cable news channels were going to ultimately kill the newspaper as well know it. I was just surprised to see it happened to a pretty decent sized one so quickly. My hometown used to have a weekly newspaper when I was a kid it was pretty nice with local articles about the school, events and was funded by ads from local businesses. Then the city built a website in the late 90s and the newspaper stopped. Sucks because my mom liked reading the paper since she isnt too computer savvy. I wonder if any of the major newspapers will have the same issue (WSJ, LA times, NY post, ny times) in the coming years. personally while I do read most of my news online (out of convenience) I prefer to read a newspaper/news magazine whenever I get a chance to.
As a journalism major, it poses a series of anxieties for me going into the job market seeing all the newspapers drop like flys. However, the broadcasting side of things aren't doing as bad, which is the direction I'm going to take.
Save the trees. But then people later on will consume too much electric power to read digital documents. The instruments used to read the digital documents will then contribute to bad e-waste, then, ugh.... Bookmarking and text search is much easier in digital though. Reputable, credible journalism is gonna be hard to establish now
