(kinda long story) With all the speculation and opinions surrounding our beloved Rockets I thought I'd share with you guys a real personal problem. I may have a defector within my own household. As a baby I sat on the sofa with my daughter and rooted on the Houston Rockets, we both cheered wildly during the championship years and wore matching #30 jerseys to the second championship parade in honor of her favorite player Kenny Smith. With "Akeem Olashhhwon" as the soundtrack I watched her in her room with her nerf hoop as she displayed incredible dunking abilities, it wildly entertained me between during the commercial breaks of Sesame Street and Barney. As she got older we still bonded through basketball. I bought her a basketball goal, she tried to duplicate not the shot of Kenny Smith in championship years but of Sanaa Latham in Love and Basketball, which is still her favorite movie. For a brief time in 7th grade she actually played, once she hit 18 points in a game off the bench, mostly 3 pointers (if i can find the link I'll provide it), but my wife unceremoniously made her quit the team because of her personal views on the "image"....pffft. She went on to gravitate to gymnastics and dance becoming one of the most awarded dancers in her district. As she enters her Junior year at UTSA she needs a job. THIS is where the problem begins. While performing at an event last year she was advised to audition for a dance company called the "Silver Spurs", the San Antiono Spurs dance team. As of today she has lasted through 3 cuts, and is in a group of 30 who outlasted over a hundred qualified contestants headed into the selection of the final 16 on Tuesday, 12 of which made the team last year. Now she's spewing tidbits about the rival organization and is excited to represent THEM as a member of the team. If she makes it, we have agreed that she cannot bring any Spurs paraphernalia including wardrobe items into this house. The spirit of the house that bleeds Rocket Red will not be tainted by the silver and black of the enemy. I am proud of her (which is the primary reason of this post), but I wish she would've needed that job here in Houston. Furthermore, I hope she realizes that if she gets this job, she may be performing in the house that Robinson built but "Akeem Olashhhwon" is where her journey actually began...and his ended.
*in before pic requests * The rockets dancers are kinda eh lately, so it may better for her to be a Silverdancer.
clutchfans, houstonians and evil members of the national media, lend me your ears(internetz)... Que? spurs? treason!! =) good luck to her.
Oh well, I hope she makes it, because it would be good for her, AB. Nothing wrong with a little family rivalry. And, I did not realize your daughter was named Brutus. DD
Congrats to your daughter, AB. I still rooted for Robert Horry when he played for the Spurs. I think you should be able to love your daughter, even if she dances for them. It's not like she's dancing for the Jazz.
I was just joking . Good luck to her, I hope she makes it. Because then we can look for the pictures at the Spurs' site.
first Lebron James, now this? what is the world becoming if not a hive of betrayers and false allegiances . . .
