If those are the players the Rockets are talking about dealing to free up room for Dream then by all means do it, assuming it means dumping Cato. I like KT, but if he can be packaged and Cato could be gotten rid of I'd throw a party!

I agree with what Thanos is thinking. Griffin will probably play just as much at the 4 as he does at the 3, but with KT he can't do that. He's basically stuck at the 3. So, the Rockets put KT on the block [IMG], but his salary doesn't match up with anyone of his worth, so Cato's monstrous contract is involved so the Rockets can get equal talent in return. I have no clue how Shandon being involved in a S&T helps the cap situation at all, unless it is to Chicago who can absorb his contract. That part just doesn't make sense to me.

It would be very nice if we can work out something with Chicago. Something like Cato/KT/Shandon for B.Miller/1st rd pick? That would be great, because the only valuable player we'd be giving up is KT...Cato is useless, and we have too many SF's for Shandon to fit in. Getting Fizer may defeat the purpose of the trade though, as he would take up time at the 4 that could be used for Griffin. Just a few thoughts...

If the Rockets are 1 mill away from Dream, trading KT would be the most logical, as he's the most movable.

If that's what it takes, I mean, the guy's given us 17 years and 2 championships, if we have to abandon our perfect rebuilding process to sign him back, then by all means, we have to do it.

Thomas and Anderson are both very desirable pieces to a team, but more along the order of "gee, that guy could really help us out" rather than "oh crap, we can't win without him."

IMO, Anderson and Thomas are players that you need when you're trying to get OVER the hump more than anything else. If Houston can keep them throughout rebuilding and establish better chemistry, so much the better.

Is having Hakeem another year or two worth getting underpaid for Anderson, Thomas and Cato (if that's possible)? These are all tradeable guys, but the need to shed salary will likely result in getting less than market value for them. For what? a couple more wins in the short-term? So that Houston can have Olajuwon retire in town?

I agree Juan. The ONLY reason I would be happy with a deal with one of those guys is if it took Cato off the book. Other then that, I don't understand why the Rockets would want off pieces of a team to sign a player with one MAYBE 2 years left tops.

Look Griffin is a 4, KT and Mo are 4's we have a glut at the 3 spot.

Get rid of SA, Cato, and KT. Build around Mo, Griffin, Cat and Francis.

These moves would clear up a lot of confusion about the roster.

I like KT, but with Griffin coming on board, he is going to get FAR less playing time.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Chicago is out of the salary absorbing market for this year. They've only got $2.6 mill in cap space & no exceptions available.

The only remaining teams that can absorb salary are Detroit($5.2 mill), Seattle($6.5 mill), Clippers($11.2 mill), Toronto(no cap room, but $5.685 mill traded player exception).

The available options for dumping Cato's or anyone else's salary slot are dwindling.

I'm pretty sure the Rockets are talking with teams that are under the cap about trades so that they don't have to take on much salary in return. I agree that they are still pursuing a Cato/Shandon trade to Chicago for Miller/?. If the Rockets could get Ron Artest in that deal (who may have fallen out of favor in Chicago after beating up Jordan), I'd be pleased. He could back up Cuttino, and he's known as a defensive specialist as well. If they have to relinquish the Drew draft pick obligation, they should do it.

I'm also pretty sure I know why the Rockets are holding onto Walt Williams. He is a great clubhouse guy who can help show our rookies how to adjust to life in the NBA. But when his value will definitely become apparent is around the trading deadline. Teams out of the running that hope to clear cap room to pursue free agents in the offseason will like taking on Walt's $5.5 mil that comes off the books after this season. Combine that with a "Mo Taylor-Derek Anderson trade-me-or-lose-me-to-free-agency" demand (a la '99 Clippers), and the Rockets could use Walt to get a valuable addition in order to make a drive at the playoffs.

Never underestimate the heart of a caproom opener!

If Walt isn't dealt and his shot is still there come this season,I would expect him to be coming off the bench and contributing bigtime... esp. with that zone.I feel we are going to the playoffs when all is said and done..so,no way do I deal him at the deadline when he comes off the books at the end of the year anyway. We get everyone signed and add a little surprise... We'll be glad we have that outside shooting in the playoffs.
As far as KT and Cato,if they are dealt, then we might end up with a BIG surprise.

does anyone remember the bizarre eddy curry to houston rumors that were floating around a week ago? I know nothing about capology, so this might not have anything to do with anything, but. . . any chance some of this cato-shandon-kt talk might have anything to do with chicago and curry? I seem to remember chicago being one team that had interest in shandon.

of course, the eddie robinson signing might have changed all that.

Where did this Curry rumor come from and why if Krause had any mind want to get rid of this kid w/ a huge upside and backside? Of course the ERob signing would affect SAnderson talk but I agree Artest would be interesting...

Kenny Thomas and Kelvin Cato ARE NOT part of the rebuilding process. Shandon is close, because he is a defensive specialist and is athletic, but the Rockets can afford to lose him. I don't want to lose KT, but if losing him means dumping Cato's ridiculously inflated contract then I would do it. If signing Dream meant r****ding the rebuilding process then I agree, let Hakeem walk. But in this scenerio it doesn't hurt the rebuilding process, especially with Langhi slated to get some minute at 2-guard.
