Does it really matter if the DNC is going to decide the candidate before the primaries?

You make a good point because that definitely happened in 2016. The question is does that always happen? Was Obama already chosen before the 2008 primaries? It is hard to tell with the super-delegate system but it seems more like they only use it to blackball certain people. They were scared of Bernie because of his socialistic ways so they used the system against him. Did they do that in 2008 with Hillary? I do not know.

I don't think it happened in 2008. Hillary was trailing from pretty much the start thanks to Obama getting the youth vote and early social media success, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz wasn't the DNC chair. Schultz was in cahoots with DNC elites and Hillary from the get-go for 2016 as the Podesta emails showed without question.

Hillary was the DNC favorite. She was absolutely smoking Obama in Superdelegates, but when Obama started winning primaries, they started going unanimously to him. The DNC wasn't as determined in 2008 as they were in 2016, but Hillary was still the favored candidate, until they realized Obama clearly had more support among voters. If Bernie wasn't an independent, or they weren't trying to make 2008 up to Hillary, or if they weren't pushing for the 1st woman to follow the 1st black person, maybe he could have replicated what Obama did, but the party just wasn't going to let it happen this time.

Gotcha, thanks. Not a Democrat, so I don't recall everything from that time. I know the DNC elites have always wanted Hillary, they made that clear by gifting her the NY senate seat after it was vacated. She had no business being given that seat, there were ACTUAL New York democrats who deserved it far more.

As you said, I think Obama's surge just caught the DNC by surprise which delayed their plans 8 years. That is why I am so frustrated by my Liberal friends and family. Yes, the GOP is terrible, but the DNC is no better - and they are easily, if not more corrupt. At least the GOP gives actual tangible value to the primary voters. Because the DNC is still shady, I have no patience for them pointing the finger at the GOP. Clean up your glass house first before throwing stones at others.

You can probably go ahead and add Julian Castro to the list. Memoir is out and he's been on the stump for many Democrats. I still think he should've run for statewide office. I was surprised he didn't run for Senator or even Governor.

Joe Biden I think is the candidate to beat
Everyone else is running for VP

Hillary should have picked Bernie for VP . .. . she would have won in a landslide
but . . politics and arrogance prevented that
Do the Democrats repeat the bullshit they did in 2016 and 2000
I would not count against it

    If Beto wins the senate
    and
    The Demos lose in 2020

I think he will be a good shot to run in 2024

You should not tie his future political aspirations to his futile attempt at winning a statewide Texas race. The guy has charisma and would easily win in a blue state. November will be a set back in his politcal career but probably not the end of it.

Robert Francis O'Rouke has no chance at winning the senate and he'll be all but entirely forgotten about 6 months after the election.

Biden won't win the Dem nomination in 2020. He would be 77 years-old when inaugurated. Ain't gonna happen. For now, he has name recognition over everyone else. By next summer, the fluff will blow off into the wind and 2-3 viable, vetted candidates will move to the forefront. I don't think Biden will last much beyond NH, if that long. I'm not even 100% convinced he's going to run.

His endorsement could be vital if two candidates go down to the wire.

EDIT: I agree with your comment a Hillary/Bernie ticket would have easily won. Problem is, there was so much animosity it wasn't possible. Also, Bernie is an agitator, not a team player. He won't keep his mouth shut. It's all about him.

Getting quality candidates to run in races dominated by the opposing party is so difficult to do.

Joe seems to be in good health
    Stable mind.

Elizabeth Warren IMO allowed herself to be baited . . . I thought she was smarter than that
She stepped into the mud with the pigs and muddied herself

Klobuchar is a senator, right? I really like her but I fear she wouldn't really stand much of a chance.

Governors have long made for good presidential candidates. I wish we could get away from the senator-as-candidate model (and the reality TV / marketer model, of course).

Moderate Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand would win but the corrupt Clintons running the DNC won't allow her success. She is smart, young, healthy, moderate, and sharp enough to go against The Donald. Warren is great but too old and too grandmothery looking.

Gillibrand would be a very respectable first female POTUS ground breaking historical honor.

where does this idea come from now? Sure, she had way too much influence for the good of that party in 2016, but is there any evidence that it is true today? From a legit balanced source, I mean?

Hey, I'm open minded and I don't really like or trust her, but I'm more wary of the right wing's obsession with her as some sort of great satan. LOL. She strikes me as the most convenient punching bag to rile up right-wing voters.

I do hope Democrats do not put up the old tired faces again and get some young blood.

I think with politics today, a guy like Richard Ojeda, could win. Easily.

That southern drawl, him raging on Pelosi and corrupt democrats...being pro mar1juana along with wanting money out of politics...ex-military...the right will say he 'hates' Trump but he voted for him...he'd get a lot of people from both sides. He'd even get Trump voters. In fact, I think he's what a lot of people hoped Trump would be, a guy who goes in there and goes 'A pox on both your houses'.

I mean, yeah, you can say "He has no experience..." but looking at who is in office now...

I'm not expecting him to run in 2020 or anything, but...if he did...I think he'd surprise a lot of folks.

I really dig the guy anyway because he doesn't let his parties positions change his opinion on things and we need more people in politics like him on both sides.

Clintons don't like Gillibrand because she called them out publicly. She bit the hand that feeds if you will but everything she said was true. Also, I was a Bernie guy and they did him wrong. Also, the tarmac. The sexual assaults. Arkansas corruption. I mean do I really need to go on?
