Those flaws can be considered part of the beauty of the lottery playoff.

GMs and coaches can ask each impending free agents if they want to play, if not just excuse them from the playoff roster. Not all free agents will think it's a waste of time, could be more time to showcase themselves to other teams. The coaches will know right away which players are playing hard and play those guys.

This playoff is really for the fringe roster players who can make a case of keeping their roster spots or vying for a spot on another team, like those summer revue camps...and the entrenched core players with the long term contracts that the team are counting on in the future, you can tell them if you want the best teammate possible and make your job easier then win this playoff. Would you rather play alongside a Tim Duncan or a Ron Mercer?

The terrible teams who are just plain terrible, well they can be given the Heart of Champion speech and show the Nuggets/Sonics or the Warriors/Mavs playoff upset. But in the larger picture, this playoff is suppose to punish crap teams who are content to be crap teams anyways. I'm all for that as I'm perturbed by the Clippers of the NBA world, content in mediocrity, never mind their lone playoff appearance a year or 2 ago. And maybe just maybe it will force teams to actually field a competitive team and get rid of underachieving deadweight players, cause they know staying as is and having an inept teams with players going through the motions won't win them the lottery playoffs, much less get into the real playoffs.

Actually, prolly will need to revise that and not have fringe playoff teams tank into the lottery playoffs in case they see a Tim Duncan coming into the draft.

How about just the sorriest 6 or 8 teams play the lottery playoffs, and the rest of the lottery teams just do the usual lottery system used today. The sorriest 6 or 8 teams should be somewhat even across, and if not well that's their own fault. Or maybe down to the 4 sorriest teams.

Then fringe teams would tank to get in the bottom 8 or 6, pretty much like they already do lol. Maybe there is just no solution.
