    how slow the site has been this holiday weekend...I just want to make sure it isn't just me...

    There is a lag time from going from thread to thread, and I though it was just my slow DSL, but I come to work and the same thing is happening...Is this just a temporary thing?

    BBS Running Slow for Anyone Else?

    For the last week or so, it's been taking 10-15 seconds for each page to load. New google ads maybe?

    I noticed that the url in my address field now says "http://board.clutchfans.net" instead of "http://bbs.clutchfans.net" - maybe the change in url will fix the slow speed.

    Should be basically a non-issue now... I'm keeping an eye on it.

    I don't want to get too technical on this -- but I had to try a different ad service (Adsdaq) because Google AdSense, which had been paying the bills, made a change last month that severely impacted (in the negative) the earnings to the point it wouldn't cover costs anymore.

    They changed the "clickable area" on the ad to be just the link itself... not the white space or text description. You can see what I'm talking about in this photo:

    <img src="/stuff/google_adsense_clickable.png" border="0">

    As a result, clicks on the ads dropped 60%-70%. Basically it meant the majority of the clicks on the ads by the users here previously were accidental.

    The new service was trying to display ads at a few different ranges or categories, and if it couldn't (the majority of the time), it displayed a backup service (like Google or Yahoo!). I'm guessing that was causing some slowness for some. I cut out some of the checks it was doing -- should be fast now. I'm not sure what will happen ultimately ... it's new so I'm tinkering with it.

    Anyhow, too much info I'm sure.

    I know this was discussed before, but over the past three days every time I try to visit a thread I have to reload four or five times.

    Is there a way to configure my browser to make the ads load faster?

    it always gets stuck on that tag.contextweb.com thingy (at least that's what it says at the bottom)
