The thread title still puzzles me. What Texans fans didn't want another Carr in Houston and how did it have any effect on the Texans decision? The same team did not draft Vince Young; I don't think they are making decisions based on what the fans think.

The only reason I posted this was out of frustration with Osweiller. Yes hindsight doesn't matter now, so I shouldn't have posted it. I am just frustrated that giving Osweiller a 72 million dollar internship on how to be an NFL quarterback, when Rick and Bill could have done it so much cheaper with Carr, and gotten much better results.

Is that true? I've never heard that; I knew he was father was a source of frustration with the organization - but I've never heard he was making noise behind the scenes.

That's what I've always heard. Not sure where I heard it. If it was here or not. Wherever it was, it was believable after the last time...

I don't think McNair would have allowed it.

As others have mentioned, this thread makes no sense. Since when do the Texans FO use a fan poll for their draft? The Texans didn't' want him, leave the fans out of it.

Derek Carr Isn’t As Good As You Think

Want to know the really good news, Raiders fans? Not only is your team 6-2 and hosting its first network prime-time game since 2003, it’s 6-2 despite the fact that quarterback Derek Carr hadn’t played particularly well until last Sunday.

After throwing for four touchdowns and 513 yards in last week’s overtime win against the Bucs, Carr’s name is being floated in MVP discussions. But that’s only because people feel they’re supposed to do that whenever a QB on a winning team has big numbers. The Raiders are tied for first, and Carr has 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season.

The coronation seems natural, but the film tells a different story. What’s been apparent almost every week (except last Sunday) is that Carr’s accuracy is improving but still isn’t always commensurate with his considerable arm talent. Uneven drop-back footwork is often to blame. Carr can sometimes get away with it because he is a fluid, athletic thrower who can sling fastballs or float touch passes. But too often he misses on many routine throws.

He’s gifted enough to one day become a top-tier QB, but he’s not there yet. He must sharpen his play.

Also apparent on film: there are snaps almost every week when Carr doesn’t read the field clearly or patiently. The pace with which he makes his reads can be erratic. At times Carr goes too fast, abandoning good reads before open receivers materialize. Other times he stays on bad reads too long, which leads to other open receivers being missed. These are critical mistakes that cannot be captured by any statistical metric, no matter how “advanced.” And they’re the types of mistakes that you almost never see from a Tom Brady, a Drew Brees or a Ben Roethlisberger.

Given the handful of plays like this that Carr has had each week, it’s fair to say that his results have been positive in terms of wins and statistics, but his process has been too shaky for the Raiders’ success to be sustained. Carr must improve or 2016 will ultimately go down as just a fun first half of the season for Oakland.

I honestly put the Oakland game up there with Denver in "games I want Brock to destroy in" He failed me in Denver, but that defense is just so good. I'm hoping with a bye week and an easy week in Jacksonville, Brock can fix some problems and just take it to the Raiders and Derek Carr gets intercepted 3 times.

The NFL’s Next Wave of Superstar QBs Remains Unclear, but One Player Is Pulling Away From the Pack
Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson headlined the 2012 quarterback draft class, the best crop the league has seen in years. Since then, though, a star at the position has yet to emerge. That’s changing with the play of some passers this fall — especially one in Oakland.

Among the starting quarterbacks from that class, that leaves only Carr, whose Raiders have been one of the breakout stories of the first half of this season. With Oakland’s 6–2 start and Carr’s excellent stats — 2,321 yards, 17 touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 66.3 percent completion rate — the 25-year-old has generated some understandable MVP buzz. The Raiders rank fourth in offensive DVOA, and it’s hard to imagine them being anywhere close to that level without Carr under center.

On the surface, Carr’s numbers place him among the best quarterbacks in football. He’s fifth in yards, 10th in completion percentage, and tied with Aaron Rodgers for third in touchdown passes, behind only Ryan and Drew Brees. By other measures, though, the distance between Carr and the league’s best QBs becomes clearer.

Carr ranks 19th in yards per attempt (7.2), wedged between noted stars Case Keenum and Cody Kessler. That isn’t the end-all of passing metrics, but it does point to Oakland’s style of play in the passing game. For a QB who has the type of cannon Carr possesses, he can be oddly conservative. His absurd bombs (like his on-the-run, 56-yard rocket shot to Michael Crabtree against Jacksonville) are memorable, but Carr is often content to attack the underneath areas of a defense. Only eight quarterbacks have a shorter average pass length in 2016. After watching the Raiders, that isn’t surprising.

The shots Carr typically takes often involve a receiver running open down the field. With his arm, those plays look beautiful when they connect. Yet his approach in the passing game is noticeably risk averse. That leads to very few interceptions, but it also lends to a hit-or-miss feel to the Raiders’ offense. Oakland ranks just 27th in plays per drive (5.7) and 17th in three-and-outs per drive (21.3 percent of the time). Relative to some of the NFL’s other top offenses (Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta), the Raiders haven’t been nearly as consistent moving the ball.

At this point, though, that’s nitpicking. There may be a lingering fear among Carr supporters that he could experience a drop-off like the one he did in the final eight games of last season, when he threw 13 touchdowns against nine interceptions and averaged just 6.3 yards per attempt, but it isn’t likely. Among all his improvements in 2016, Carr’s ability to deal with pressure may be the most significant, and given the talent that the Raiders have up front, the cushy environment he’s had so far this year should continue.

If it does, the high-flying moments the Raiders have had will, too, and Carr’s could solidify his place among the league’s preeminent QBs. The Raiders passer has his faults, but what he’s shown this season is more than enough to earn him the title of the best young QB to come along since Luck and Wilson. Although uncertainty rules when it comes to the others, it’s time to say the Raiders have found their man. As a slew of Hall of Fame–caliber quarterbacks march toward the end of their careers, Carr is wading into his prime, looking poised to take his place among the NFL’s best.

We've seen Brock play against bad teams and struggle Colts, Bears, and Titans so I have little hope he shows much success against the Jags, now Texans likely win but the game will much closer then it should be. Also the Raiders just carved up a much better defense in the Broncos. So I have little hope they leave Mexico City with a win. Edit: forgot the Texans struggle greatly in prime time games against remotely good opponents so likely another blowout

Anyway i hope Brock makes me eat crow and he shows improvement, which shouldn't be hard since he's been garbage.

Yes I think it was a mistake, but I completely understand why they passed on another Carr. NRG would have been burned to the ground. Our fickle (and frankly quite ignorant to the game of football) fans booed JJ Watt.

Jimmy G, Prescott, Carr are the real big ones we passed on. Bridgewater and Bortles are nothing special. I just don't know what's up with this team and evaluating QBs
