Actually, the gay angle is the perfect out for Te'o. He needs to come out and say he made the whole thing up because he is a conflicted gay Mormon. He can go on Oprah's show and shed a lot of tears and ask for forgiveness. As the first prominent male athlete currently in teams sports to come out as gay, the media and public will be sympathetic. He will rake in the $$$ in gay endorsement deals. He can probably roll with the gay ruse for at least a couple of years before deadspin outs him as a closet straight guy.

A Hawaiian, Mormon college student......enrolled at the largest Catholic college in the country......becomes a walking icon based 'partially' on a made up story about a dead girlfriend.....that was really his 'Family friend' (Male)......to cover up the fact he is gay!
