Really? You get that dunce of a coach out of here 3 years ago, Harden will llisten to a credible HC.

Harden will listen if the new coach benches him when he doesn't play defense - he will come around.

Lol. Mchale sucks. But he's just a face put there to balance the locker room, attract other players & manage moreyball. We all know he's not a real coach. If Morey fires mchale he's basically firing himself, because Mchale is only a smiley face for the organization to trot out like a trophy for visitors

If we want real change, we gotta get rid of moreyball and bring in a coach with a real system. Relying on 3's every nite has ran its course

Can't bench superstars or they'll leave when they become free agents. Resist the instinct to say good riddance or tough love blah blah blah. A team can languish for a decade before landing someone as good as Harden. The Rockets can't afford to piss him off.

What's needed isn't a hard ass or even a master strategist. What's needed is a button pusher, a manipulator like Phil Jackson who can coax Harden into giving more effort.

damn being an Atheist and all who decided to convert to Moreyism, I'm starting to see that even a REAL human being can be hard to believe in.

Yes yes that's step 1 to solving our DEFENSIVE issues, but what about the offense?

Harden needs a coach like Coach K or Thibs. They will demand the best from him just like they did for team USA. The entire team needs that because they don't respect McHale because he's not good at his job.

Not if they need to bench. Look, a great coach knows that each player is different. They are people after all and respond differently to things.

Harden NEEDS tough love. He loses focus way too often and he needs someone that will either just inspire him to play hard. He'll listen if it gets results.

I agree that a master strategist would help though. Even if you are lazy for a night running smart sets can still get you good shots. The truth is even the best teams are lazy some nights but they still can get good shots and look like a competent team.

I do think we need a tough coach though. One that will say. "If you aren't playing team offense and defense James then you can sit by me and think about all the stats you are missing out on."

They may not need much offense considering his teams held their opponents to below 90 on a regular basis. But they could always bring in an assistant or two to implement an offensive system. It can't be worse than what they've currently got.

I do agree though that keeping McHale around is essentially wasting this season and possibly more. Dwight will not resign with a lottery team, so kiss him goodbye if this crap continues. It'll also scare off any big name free agents, so forget about Durant coming here. And keep in mind that Harden's a free agent himself in 2018, only two seasons after this one. If the organization is still reeling from a trip to the lottery and possibly losing Dwight, it could set the Rockets back years.

There's a lot at stake here. Yes it would be costly for Les and Morey to eat McHale's contract while essentially admitting they royally f'ed up by giving him another 3 years to begin with. But better to swallow that bitter pill now than to have this whole thing implode on them by letting this continue until the offseason.

Reality: McHale put in a coach of the year level season last year, and as such probably gets the benefit of the doubt all season, unless they're still lotto level into February. Even then.

Kevin McHale isn't walking out that door. Yet.

Harden gets frustrated very easily, you can see it in his body language.

It's real easy to say you need a disciplinary coach, but there's a reason why there's not many of those anymore. These guys are professionals and they aren't taking it seriously and coaching may or may not solve that.
