Sure Pau is a better post player than Dwight, but that's not D'Antoni's game plan. He even said he'd rather play Pau as a stretch 4 and get him to shoot more outside shots, including 3's. Who knows, with McHale and Dream's tutelage, Dwight could learn some post moves and incorporate them into his arsenal.
I like how the interviewer keeps trying to bait D'Antoni into badmouthing Howard, D'Antoni doesn't bite and keeps praising Howard, and yet the thing OP comes away with is that he said Pau was better in the post than Howard. He also said Howard was professonal, tried to win, was committed to the team, and has a strong positive impact on the game. Why not highlight all that?
Good interview by D'Antoni, very professional. Also D12 is much younger than Gasol and still can improve alot at post. The Rockets players share the ball, unlike Kobe, so the situation will be different.
I still can't fathom how D'Antoni could not get Howard and Pau to work together. 2 of the best frontcourt players in the league? Bench one of them!
whoever disagree with this is effin stupid well, guess what? gasol suck ass on defending the post! wait.....this was posted by iJHolmes. why did i even bother?!
I didn't find anything wrong with what Pringles SAID. I however found so many things wrong with what he DID, including not reigning in Kobe when he was clearly hurting the team and benching Gasol and turning him into a backup stretch 4 (wtf?). There was no reason for Gasol and DH to not coexist, Bynum and Gasol were able to do it and Bynum's even slower and more post centric than DH.
Nobody is mentioning what he did in New York. He said that Gasol is the best Center while absolutely wanting to trade him away during last season. Talking about being a hypocrite while calling him a Center now after making him a jump shooter last season. People are calling out Rick Adelman for not handling superstars well while D'Antoni has absolutely no clue how to win big with multiple superstars and HOFers.
We may do the same thing with Omer, however. Not that he's an all star but if those can't work together and we play Howard 33+ minutes, Omer will probably not be happy with just 15-20 mins a game. It ain't easy juggling multiple guys with similar skillsets and/or positions. Just look at how we used Lin last year, as a spot up shooter. That's why Phil Jackson is Phil Jackson.
May I ask why? I mean, we do have another big (Omerau) and a dominant SG (Harden:Kobe) with a generally similar run-n-gun type offense though we're much better.
