As we all know, Orlando owes us a pick, and has 3, maybe 4 picks this draft. Now, they're wanting to get rid of at least 1, maybe 2 picks. I've heard that Denver won't accept their pick back. Meaning they'd have to give us a pick instead. So now how would this sound: Houston gets: Michael Doleac #3 pick (Magic picks for us here...Stromile Swift) Magic get: Kenny Thomas (No longer owe Houston a pick, keep #13 pick, and maybe get a future first rounder from us?) That would be a pretty good deal IMO. Salary wise, they're REALLY close, and I don't think we'd even have to use our 4.5 exception, if we did, a very insignificant portion. Why the Magic would do it: They're trying to attract Duncan, and Doleac would serve little purpose. They get a PF still, that Duncan likes (KT) who's got a small contract. They no longer owe us a pick, and don't have a lottery pick clogging up their cap room for Duncan/Hill/Jones/McGrady. They still have the #10, and #13 picks as well (we could also give up the #9 in this deal). Amaechi (sp?) can be their backup if they choose to resign him. They also no longer owe 2 picks in the future, only 1 (to Denver). KT's contract Why the Rockets would do it: No brainer. We get the perfect Francis compliment (other than Mobes of course) in Stromile Swift who wants to play here. We also get another big man with a little bit of experience, yet is still very young, and can hit the outside shot. Even if we had to trade the #9 in the deal, we'd still get what we wanted out of the draft. If we still had the #9, we could look for an athletic SF, (Maybe Mike Miller or Dermarr falls) or another PF (Oyededji) and come away with a killer team. Rockets lineup after trade: C: Hakeem/Doleac/Cato PF: Swift/Rogers (maybe Oyededji) SF: Williams/Bullard (Dermarr or Miller?) SG: Anderson/Mobley PG: Francis/Moochie That's a 12 man roster, all depending on the #9 pick, should we keep it. Bryce Drew will likely be on his way out, and I think the Clips want him.... ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more! This is a good deal if we can keep that 9th pick. The only problem I see is that Cato is the third string center, if he is here I really think that he will have to see more minutes to justify his contract. ------------------
well, he's not really 3rd string center, it's more on the depth chart. Doleac and Cato should get the lion's share of minutes at, mind you Cato can also play PF well (he often played at the same time as Sabonis or Wallace), and since Swift is a rookie, he'll also get some PF minutes, and Swift perhaps could even switch over to SF for spells, a la how Reef plays PF for short spells. Remember, Cato prefers playing off the bench, so basically, after Dream retires, Doleac starting at center, Swift at PF, and Cato being the 3rd big man, with guys like Rogers getting some minutes. Talk about some intimidation down low when Swift and Cato are there. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
