JJ was a guest and was speculating about what kind of team he might want to come back for and then described the Texans. Would he and should he?
Hypothetically, he won't be effective for the first few weeks as he ramps back into being an NFL DE. But by playoff time, he should be more than capable of being a great player. I feel like the only teams he'd be willing to come back to, are PIT, HOU and GB, as he has ties to all 3. But depending on how the season progresses, HOU might be the best chance at a SB, out of those 3 teams. If I was him though, I'd try to play for the best teams - KC, PHI, SF. SF already has Young and Bosa, but I don't think SF can afford Chase Young this offseason - JJ might not have a problem taking less money if it means he doesn't have to work that hard on a team that's a perennial contender.
He isn't gonna come back. He has a crush job now and loves being on TV. He might have the itch, because he loves the game, but he doesn't want the pain that comes with it.
Might be referring to this post? <---LINK I haven't watched it yet. There is a discusion in there too...
I think he's serious about wondering like a lot of guys right after they retire. I think he's also smart enough to not act on emotions. If the Texans go 5-1 in their next 6 and are 10-5 with the division locked up it would certainly make a compelling case. They should go streaking and dial up some pressure on him. It would be an amazing story...
On the real though, JJ is more likely to screw us up than he is to help the team. Don't need a sideshow / distraction especially for someone who wasn't even that good last year and never showed up in the Playoffs even in his prime, except for the wild card round.
That's the clip of the clip referenced in the clip I saw through a DDG search. I later saw this was referenced in the J J Watt Appreciation thread too. I didn't realize it was already being discussed. added - It was a response by Chuggs on his podcast.
That's awesome, but tackles matter too. He ranked #346 for tackles last year. Doesn't matter anyway, because if he comes back at the end of the season it would probably just be to chase a ring with the best team, or to take the attention and media from all those who got them there to begin with.
Let's not forget, it would be a dream of his to play with Demeco- I think he's really thinking about it, but only thinking strongly if the Texans make a run, which I think they will... so I would say it's possible but unlikely like I mentioned before
As much as my heart would love to see him come off the bench as an edge rusher, JJ looks like he's about 35lbs lighter than his playing days. He'd need to ramp up FAST to get in any kind of game shape. But hell, one speed rush sack would bring the house down
He's retired. I believe there is no contract issue or trade issue if he wanted to come back immediately. He'd have to agree to a contract within the cap.
Can't see him coming back as an impactful defensive player. Perhaps on offense as a TE? Less wear and tear on the body and we know he has great hands.
