Cougars are fifth in adjusted efficiency on offense and defense. No other team holds top-10 rankings in both, and only three others—Alabama, Texas and UConn are even top-20 on both ends.
UH deserves to be #1 overall tournament seed. Vegas oddsmakers, almost every metric out there, and all of us homers clearly see that UH deserves to be #1 overall seed. But there is a small contingent of sportswriters and competing athletic programs that are bound and determined to put Kansas in that spot despite the fact that 6 of their 7 losses were by double figures. If not Kansas they want Alabama. It's been an historic year for Houston. We are the only program than has been top 5 all year. We have been ranked #1 three times this year. We could very easily be 34-0 this year. We have had three win streaks of 9 games or greater. When is the last time a program has done that? I was curious who made up the NCAA selection committee so I looked it up. It is composed of 12 people. The person in charge is the VP of intercollegiate athletics at Bradley. Next you have 4 commisssioners representing the Atlantic 10, the Big Sky, the Sun Belt, and the SWAC. The other 7 that have a say in the selection process are the athletic directors for Iowa State, North Carolina, Minnesota, Samford, Butler, Arizona, and Alabama. These are the individuals that get to decide the ultimate tournament bracket. No wonder U of H is having such a hard time getting the respect they deserve and getting the #1 overall seed. It's like there are 12 Seth Davis's that get to decide where we are placed for the tournament. Last I checked Seth Davis finally came around and likes us. Maybe some of these will too. For now by looking at it, the only one that I could see that might be on our side is the commissioner of the SWAC. There are certainly a lot of politics involved. That is why I have taken a position that it is what it is and blissfully look forward to every game as we silence more and more of the doubters. For now we have a game to play later today against Memphis that really does not matter in the grander scheme of things. For Memphis it is going to be like facing us in the final championship game. I am sure Sasser wants to play but will not play unless cleared by the doctors. Should be an interesting game.
It's hard to find a bracket projection this morning that doesn't have us out West in Vegas as, at best, the #3 overall seed. Makes me wonder if this afternoon's game even matters from a seeding perspective? I think unless A&M beats Bama today this is almost certainly the bracket:
Forgot to add our Wanted to add that our winning percentage in quad one games is 87%. I think to say that is much higher than what Kansas can say. Much higher.
I think Alabama gets the #1 overall if they win today. If bama loses, I think the committee will put Kansas as the #1 overall with their resume. Can’t really deny how strong it is with their schedule this year regardless of losing yesterday. Just a boat full of quad 1 games all year long both non conference and the gauntlet of what the big12 was this year. So We’ll see selection Sunday is finally here! Just please get out of this game without any further injuries. I do like with sasser out today it gives Terrance and sharp extended run going into the tourney. They need a game like this before it all starts
Wanted to add that our winning percentage in quad one games is 87%. I think that is much higher than what Kansas can say. And our win percentage against Q1 and Q2 combined is even higher.
Technically they can hold Sasser against us, but that will just add fuel to our engine like it did last year. Alabama has a legitimate case. They beat us.
I think we win today even if Sasser does not play. Don't think Sampson will allow the team to take the day off. But it is going to take a solid effort by Mark, Walker, and Jwan. Shead is going to be Shead. Not worried about him. Freshman guards are going to have to grow up and play big as well. Now is their moment to show us what they can do.
It "should" be UH/Bama/Kansas/Purdue then UT/Marquette/Zona/Zaga Why don't the Coogs just beat the everliving **** out of Memphis today and see where the chips fall
I fully expect this to be one of the dirtiest basketball game I've ever seen. Memphis is going to be pulling a lot of **** today. I hope we don't retaliate in kind.
I hate the Memphis program so, so much, and have for a while. Glad they're not heading to the Big? with yall and Cincy
I can't see how Kansas could get the #1 overall seed after getting blown out by UT twice in one week.
Good and bad news in this but just get out of this game with everyone. I trust John houston and KS signing off on this. Dodged a big one Go Cooogs.
They must think that it's not that bad and that they need a win to secure the #1 overall seed. I could see the committee giving that to Alabama if Sasser doesn't play today.
At this point I don’t think it was that bad and he could have actually returned yesterday if it was a bigger game. Just played it safe and with treatment and rest til today it’s fine. Just glad it wasn’t a knee or major strain of any sort. That was close and would have just been brutal
Tbh with my Tar Heels not even going to make the tournament I am going to root for the Cougars all the way.
