    The picks were right...

there will be injury replacements, Devenski has to be at the top of the list.

I'm assuming Devo takes Keuchels spot for injury replacement.

Devenski is light years better than betances this year.
This isn't a career achievement. It's a half year achievement in which devenski has been much, much better than betances.

Perhaps before last night.... when Betances' ERA was ~1.5 runs lower.

Why are those 2 mutually exclusive?

Not sure your question, unless you're saying stats don't matter.

You mean to tell me Pat Neshek is a ******* all-star in the NL?

    NL = Eastern Conference?

    Phillies needed a representative.

Not to mention he is very deserving this year with a 1.39 ERA 0.866 WHIP. Neshek is a quality reliever, he was just a RH specialist. This year though he is getting LHB out.

He is deserving, but 47 NL relievers have thrown more innings than him, and there are a few more deserving than him that didn't make it.

Wow, there are a lot of very impressive relievers in the NL right now (a lot of players I've never even heard of). Being the lone rep certainly made the difference for him, but definitely far from a Mike Williams situation (the worst all-star I think I've ever seen selected, as I think his ERA was well over 5 at the time, maybe even 6)

6.44, 25 saves in 29 opportunities. He was great the year before though. Should have been Giles or Kendall, though Giles had missed ~20 games and Kendall didn't really turn it on until the last couple of weeks before the ASB (he had an 18-game hitting streak at the break).

2001, we got him and Pedro Astacio in different deals, I remember vividly.

That was the first year I ever actively paid attention to the trade deadline rumors.

Yes, I remember that... but that wasn't the year being referenced above, was it? I remember thinking it was amazing that we were basically turning games into a 5-6 inning affair by amassing all sorts of elite bullpen talent (that was the first year that Dotel was coming into his own as an elite bullpen guy).

Williams, Mike Jackson, Dotel, Wagner... sure, it wasn't as popular as Lidge-Dotel-Wagner, but 3 out of the 4 guys did have decent experience at closing games (and in the case of Mike Jackson, high leverage playoff saves... which probably is why Dierker mistakingly went to him instead of Dotel in Gm. 1).

Dear god I wanted to strangle Dierker. Jackson and Truby were just mind-boggling decisions. Wagner and his "**** it, I'm bringing the heat" attitude, Alou/Biggio/BerkmanHidalgo all crapping the bed and Lugo's sh!te defense didn't help things either.

Yep. By 2001, it was clear both the team and Hunsicker had enough of him managing via gut instinct instead of actual data/performances.

I actually enjoyed the Jimy Williams era.... after Dierker, it was refreshing to see managers that fully grasped the concept of percentages and tendencies. Then again, Jimy would sometimes take it too far.

No, he was a decent reliever when we got him, that trash all star season was later. Dotel was wiping people out at that point, but the rest of the pen before him was pretty meh. I was pretty excited about picking him up for that reason. He ended up being pretty meh himself.
