Treebeards ... but I wouldn’t say I’ve ever tried to seek the best. the best I’ve ever had is here in Boulder, each serving cooked and served in its own mini iron skillet ... butter moist with crunch on edge.
I’m a simple man. Give me the Jiffy all day at home, but I like my cornbread on the sweeter side. Makes me remember eating the old cornbread in a glass of buttermilk trick my with grandfather when I was young
I don't discriminate: plain, jalapeno, cheese, whole kernels of corn, bacon, sweet, it's all good. It's typically based on my mood or if I'm serving it with something. Sweet cornbread doesn't work for me with hearty stuff like chili, beans, beef stew, gumbo etc, typically eat it with butter solo. I have the same memories you do about it, too. Creamed corn is a solid additive to any cornbread.
