God recalls are stupid. It was dumb when Democrats tried to recall Walker and the Senators and Wisconsin, it was dumb when Republicans recalled the Iowa Supreme Court justices after the gay marriage ruling and its dumb in this case too.

Take note of moondogg's image. We CAN fire people who work for us. When the people sense that their elected politicians aren't representing them, RECALL. It's simple really. Very American. And I suspect you'll see a lot more of these "dumb" (your words) moves before it's all over.

That is why we have elections at set period. The problem with recalls is that it compresses our already compressed election cycle even more and makes it more likely for politicians to govern based on opinion polls, interest groups and money.

I didn't agree with Gov. Walker's policies but thought trying to recall him was a bad idea. Elections do have consequences plus they also cost money and resources and take time away from actually governing. Recall should be reserved for instances of malfeasance rather than policy disagreements.

It was really stupid in California too, with the governor.

It's stupid to circumvent the existing election processes based on political vitriol and froth, especially when it's over a single issue, whether redistricting, gay marriage, or guns. No matter who pursues these recall agendas, I oppose them.

Just vote them out of office if they suck. But only recall them if they are clearly criminal. Not just if they disagree with your views. Otherwise, we could devolve into a constant state of recalls, making us to one step closer to a chaotic developing world nation. (Some people seem hell-bent on getting us there with all due haste.)

Well this was about more than a policy difference.

In voters' eyes these lawmakers were violating an oath to uphold the constitution.

I like it. Wish we could recall more representatives, and not just on the state level! :p

Then take the law they passed to court and have it declared unconstitutional.

Wow, they were sure unreasonable, favoring laws requiring background checks on private gun sales and limits to 15 rounds. That would tear the guns away from people!

Yeah, there is only one way to think about and discuss the constitution, and if you disagree with a narrow version of interpretation, well hey then, you can't ever even run for office! Leave America to a narrow group of like-minded people -- the rest of you can take a hike, just like the founding fathers intended. Oh, or... wait a minute.

My understanding is that one of the guys that lost was term-limited anyway and was leaving in 6 months. Now the new guy presumably has to run yet another campaign starting soon. What a waste of time and effort.

God forbid we prevent guns from falling into the hands of criminals.

As someone mentioned before, recalls are really detrimental unless the politician in question truly committed some atrocity. If politicians have to live in constant threat of recall, special-interest groups will dominate politics even more than they do today.
