Going by your logic, does this make Russell Wilson an 18 million dollar QB? If so, he's a Flacco in the making.
Nope. The poster I replied to said Kaepernick deserved 18 million and to justify it, he referenced him LOSING two EASILY winnable games. That seemed an unusual way to prove a point.
If the Niners dont pay Kaepernick atleast 18 million per, there will be a lot of other teams out there who would gladly do so. Numerous nfl "experts" have been saying so all week on Espn shows like Mike n Mike, Cowerd, PTI as well as on san francisco radio knbr. The reality is, while quarterback salaries may be inflated, you are worth what the market is willing to pay. In a market where shaub is worth 15million, Flaco 20million and cutler 18 million, is it really suprising that Kaepernick will get 18+?
makes sense to draft/sign Kap's potential replacement and develop them this year, at the very least to have some leverage in negotiations and not be held hostage to only one viable option at QB
Roger Goodell would be worth less if there was a salary cap for the NFL front office. Might even be a cap casualty at 44 million
Exactly right, QB salaries are inflated. A desperate team like the Raiders, Jags, or Texans would gladly pay Kaepernick $18M. Meanwhile, Kaep needs to improve significantly in year 3. I give him a pass for part of last year since he had no #2 WR for much of the year. But the Niners offense struggled badly in the red zone last year. The D would force tons of turnovers, and all we'd have to show for it were some Phil Dawson FGs.
You and I are probably experiencing a lot of the same reporting in the Bay Area. Sounds like most believe the 49ers will try to sign him, maybe above $18M. Meanwhile, they haven't signed Dawson, which seems kind of dumb, all things considered. I agree we need to give Kaep a chance, but to me he hasn't earned a *long-term* chance yet. Would not sign him to a big deal this summer. EDIT: ewww, did I say "we"? I guess I am turning into a local.
Interesting. My understanding is that both sides are willing to ride out 2014 and see how he does. Biggest priority is to get Harbaugh's extension done, then sign up Dawson for another year. Whitner also needs to be brought back.
He'd have to fall back on his other career, which is serving as a walking illustration of how randomly being at the right place at the right time is 99% of life.
