Ohh @J.R. …. Maybe it just wasn’t their year. Besides, I remember the GM saying not to judge him until 2030, so just be patient.
Let’s be honest. Sengun and Amen would be more complete players with the Spurs than they are with the Rockets.
I think you need to look at reality and your team isn’t good enough. Sheppard, Amen, Sengun aren’t good enough. Period
I don't disagree that they are well ran, but you know, they wouldn't even be a good team right now if Wemby wasn't on the team. They sure as hell aren't getting Fox without Wemby. Let's say they drop to 2nd during the Wemby draft, instead they end up with Brandon Miller, is that franchise really turning around at that point (probably not). Spurs without Wemby were praying to the heavens that Keldon Johnson or Sochan or Vassell would turn into something to build off. In the NBA, you definitely have to have some luck and the Spurs have been damn lucky to land a couple of franchise players. Kawhi was a damn good pick and the way they developed him showed how top tier the franchise is, but once they lost him, they were in the gutters hoping Aldridge/Derozan turned into something.
There is not much to investigate....people were drinking the Kool-aid, they sure were not forcing you all. Tilman, Stone, Udoker and Co. treated flawed roster pieces like gold and jewelry. They started the Rebuild with Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Junior......let that Sink in!
Johnson was already a very good player. Vassel is solid and they just have the right mix of shooters, defense, and toughness around Wemby
It’s ok to say they hit the lottery. **** that other noise about “culture” lol Where was that Culture post-Kawhi when they were winning 33 games and 22 games and their core, prior to Wemby, looked like ours 2018 Lonnie Walker 2019 Luka Samanic, Keldon Johnson 2020 Devin Vassell 2021 Josh Primo 2022 Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley You like that “core” & “culture”? 2023 Gumby 2024 Castle 2025 Harper, Bryant
1-3 vs SA this season Lone win, Spurs 2nb2b Rockets have gradually deteriorated since November. Well-coached teams don't do that. Spurs took a few seasons of winning off, now they're back to great/lucky same way since mid-90's.
This organization just recently got a practice facility. They still refuse to hire a shooting coach. Don’t have any prominent assistant coaches. Has the smallest front office in sports, it’s literally just a few dudes in a group chat. This is not a professional organization, the rockets would’ve broken Wemby had we drafted him. It’s a reason why players and players’ parents were trying to avoid getting drafted by us for years. The league office and everyone else knows this is not a serious organization, so why tf would they gift us a generational talent?
no Wemby wasn’t luck. The NBA wanted him there with already a big Spurs fanbase in France and Europe due to Parker. NBA wanted to further expand the Euro market. They even built NBA stores in France. Wemby to Spurs made sense in terms of overseas tv deals and licensing.
The Spurs also had a proven recent track record of success, unlike us and Detroit. The Spurs have a better ownership group and front office so they got Wemby
The only pick I regret is Castle. If JG was always on the trading block why didn’t they draft Castle as a contingency? I will never understand this and believe this was a huge misstep by Stone.
Funny you mention those but not Emay favorites Tari who arguably was the wrost player. Dude is a selfish player. Low IQ. Driving into wemby to get destroyed three times. Fouling Vassel on a three twice. Sheppard has actually won us games this season.
