Or more like they were lucky (rigged) in getting Wemby. They already had good role players from Pop days and added Fox drafted castle (who we should have drafted) lucked out with champagne who was almost out of the NBA. A combination of rigged, luck, and good drafting/acquisitions.

Wemby is a huge part of their success- but this isn’t all Wemby. They have done a great job at identifying and developing players, getting guys that fit well together and will play hard. They are not perfect - but they are very well ran overall.
This is what a lot of fans don’t understand. Championship habits start long before a player dribbles a ball. Yes the Spurs got gifted Wemby but they already had the foundation to maximize him. Wemby in Houston wouldn’t look this good.
Teams keep switching on Sheppard. Not sure how this happens but it does and he keeps getting killed. This is why he doesn’t start and when he does play it’s always a gamble. you get shooting and quick points at the risk of bad TO’s and defense. Again he didn’t lose this game alone but he played a big part in the losing effort. Amen just isn’t aggressive enough and Sengun played terribly again.

Stone wouldn’t have made a team like this around Wemby. Hell they’d probably break him. The franchise just isn’t good enough.
