Personally, I think there should be some comedic license, I laughed my butt off when I first saw this even though it made fun Asian American's engrish accent and also using an obscene word multiple times, but it was meant to be comedic and I'm ok with that. On the other hand, I can respect other's right to demand certain amount of respect from others. I think the party was in bad taste because there was an underlying intent to demean others (imo).

I don't think that "theme" was intentional. To clarify, most of the people at that party seemed to be white. If there was a party, where majority of the participants were black, and there was a "black theme", with a few people of other ethnicity joining in dressed/looking like in similiar mannar, it would not be considered racist

If you told me that people who wore togas, or pirates, or Hawaiians would be pissed off or offended, then I would have said, "Good one. that's a well thought out post there."

But you're not going to (am I right?), so I'm going to say:

The crux of my problem with having a party like the one in this post is that it offends a large population of people who have had a history of discrimination. And the stereotypes are NOT inane like "all Hawaiians wear grass skirts, or all Greeks wear togas".. they are damaging stereotypes that blacks people are drunks and alcoholics, that they are hyper-physical specimens with big asses (and by virtue of that, the stereotypes marginalizes their intelligence), and so on.

I'm an Asian guy, and while we may be the model minority or whatever, we still get shafted.. I'm amazed that people in today's time still can't understand why some stereotypes are offensive...

If there was an Asian-themed 'party' where everyone was dressed as Charlies in rice paddies with conical hats and all the girls were 'me love you long time' hookers, you'd bet there'll be outrage.

It's like, if you've never been shafted, don't go 'uh oh, what did I do' when people who have been marginalized protest. Otherwise, it's just ignorance.

When someone is offended. . they offended
you trying to break down why or you trying to make them feel bad for being offended. . is irrelevent
    people are offended PERIOD
it is something people have stated REPEATEDLY that it offends them
    but
Like the vile selfish peices of crap they are
they didn't give a d*mn who they offended because their drunken fun was more important

Good post. But with all the pics of these "MLK parties", it is amazing how some people feel like there isn't a problem. But those are the same people who feel like they can tell racist jokes in front of the minority the joke is about and think it's funny.

But you can do whatever you like, but just remember that others can react in anyway they like as well.

There is definitely a double standard when it comes to this stuff, but that doesn't make what they did in this party any better.

You stole the "vile peices of crap they are" line from a MLK speech, didn't you.

You want to be offended. You live for it.

Here is a better question, are rednecks a race? Didn't think so.
