Brooks getting better
Rockets guard Aaron Brooks returned to practice for a light workout and called himself day-to-day. The Rockets said Brooks will miss between one and three weeks with a bruised right ankle, but he said he just appreciates that the injury was not worse.

“Every day is getting better,” Brooks said. “I should be back pretty soon, I think. I’m thankful that it wasn’t that serious. I want to get it taken care of so it doesn’t flare up during the season.”

With the Rockets’ latest injury issues, they barely had enough healthy bodies to practice, with just 10 players going through Monday’s workout.

“It’s hard to get any continuity going,” coach Rick Adelman said. “When we don’t have the bodies to substitute in practice, it makes it very difficult. You have a tendency to have certain guys out there all the time.”

Tracy McGrady, who returned to practice Tuesday and took some extra shooting after the workout, said he felt stronger after Monday’s day off.

“Feel pretty good,” he said. “I’m ready to go. Whether I’m 100 percent or not, I still feel I can go out there and contribute and be effective for my team.

“Who knows when I will be 100 percent? I talked to the doctor on Sunday and he said the type of surgery I had May 6, it’s six to nine months (to be 100 percent). I’m just on my fifth month. I don’t know. I’m ready to play now.”

One of Ron Artest’s former teammates, Reggie Miller, picked the Rockets to win the Western Conference, which would seem to be a reflection of his confidence in Artest.

Artest, however, said that prediction reflects on the team as a whole.

“We appreciate it,” said Artest, who reached the Eastern Conference finals with Miller and the Pacers. “We appreciate the support. It’s not just me.

“The team, they proved what they could do last year. Everybody gets better. They had young guys who were part of the greatness last year.”

if he's feeling good, than thats a good sign, i think he'll be back in less than 2 weeks

and Tracy said tht the doctor said it would take six-nine months to be healthy, well if he got his surgery done on may 6, then in a week it would be exactly Six months, so maybe's he's just ahead of schedule and its his mentatilty thats holding him back..

i think he should be fine tho

Brooks knows he needs to be out on the floor protecting his spot in the rotation, because if someone comes in or the rotation goes another direction, he could find himself on the bench.

I'd definitely like to see his minutes increase this year. Rafer's getting to the age that he can't keep playing 38 minutes a night, every night.

20 minutes a night for Brooks ought to be sufficient enough to really get his feet wet this year.

I think that Brooks would return to the floor at the Boston game, which is the game we really need him. He is young, will recover quickly.
