"...he's probably the best passer we have on the team..." coach likes him. Those words will help him make the cut.
Reading some of the scouting reports, Ish Smith point guard skills sounds almost like Aaron Brooks' point guard skills without a jump shot. http://www.briansbigboard.com/player/ishmael-smith We've seen it before with John Lucas even, so can't get too ahead of ourselves on this. Adelman mentioned he wants the 2nd unit to go up-tempo. So that fits into Ish Smith's skills. Ish on the 1st unit with Yao and Battier would be disastrous.
Ish is going to be a great player. They way he moves with the ball is incredible. If he can get some kind of a shot he was be amazing. Really hope he makes the cut.
I was sooooo excited when we got this kid undrafted. Loved his game in college and always thought he'd be a good fit for the Rockets.
We need to slow down, Ish isn't taking any mins from Lowry come starting day. We should know this, look at Von Wafer. Wafer had a good preseason...and still had to wait for garbage time to slowly impress Adelman. Adelman has his loyalties and he's not like Don Nelson who would probably just throw Ish and Brooks in the starting line up just for the hell of it. To Adelman, Lowry is more dependable and Lowry is a proven NBA player through 82 games....Ish isn't, and we don't know. I'll bet he gets garbage time mins and if Brooks or Lowry gets nicked up then we'll really see what he's about. Onlt then will he really start to steal mins at PG. Until then he's a good depth player like Jeffries. Right now Lowry is a really good PG who can ALSO push the ball and on top of that a lot of people will tell you he's one of the best defenders at his position. You just don't take mins away from this type of player easily just because of potential. Just like Patterson is really going to have to earn his mins with Hayes in front of him. In crunch time when the lights go on and season starts, Adelman always goes to what he knows. Like how he always puts in the starting lineup at the end of games most times no matter how well the 2nd unit has played.
I like the idea. He did great yesterday, and if he takes that spot then I do not have to see Erica in rocket uniform.
No. 1 play of the night on nba.com http://www.nba.com/video/channels/top_plays/2010/10/09/20101009_top5.nba/?ls=iref:nbahpt1
ish smith ran circles around indiana and made the rockets highlight plays look dazzling! what a 3rd string pg!
I didn't know what to think of him at first...but if he keeps playing like he played last night, we have to keep him. He looked so comfortable with the group we had out on the floor, his passing could and should really help us
He is clearly an NBA caliber PG, someone that should be in the league. It is amazing how the Rockets have gone from having ZERO PGs a few years ago, to 3 very good ones. WOW ! DD
I want to hear what YoYo has to say, he was way down on Ish Smith in the summer league saying his passes were always late. Of course, I reminded him that PGs passes are dependent upon whom they are passing too, and more than any other position a PG can look terrible or good based upon who they are playing with... Ok YO YO...where ya at? How does Ish look now that he is playing with NBA talented players? DD
