It'd be nice to see bat back by that Nov. 4 game against the Celtics but if he's not ready to go...then can't push him. Always best to get rid off those nagging injuries early on and play the C's at full strength down the road.

I wouldn't be surprised if Battier's ankle is an issue for him the whole season. He suggested that might be the case about a month back, before training camp.

Battier has been the glue of this team since he's been here. it's going to be tough to win a game without him.

WTF was this guy doing all summer?

Wasting time w/ promo's and talkshows in China, only to miss the entire preseason and now start of the actual season

Even if management wasn't high on Rudy Gay, in hindsight Ronnie Brewer would have still been a better roster addition than Battier. And this assumes that the rumor in which they refused to give up Luther Head in order to move up and get Brandon Roy was false. If it was indeed true, then that is just tragedy of gigantic proportions.

No, I just don't get it. As I remember Battier had pretty easy surgery to just remove pieces of bones in his ankle. So why the hell after a long offseason he still can't even practice. Something is wrong with it, because he should have already been 100%. There is a similar situation with McGrady but he at least practices and plays without bigger problems.

I am not a specialist and I may be wrong but for me something is wrong there.

But all I can say is to just wish Battier everything's best. Hopefully he will be ready to go soon with no setbacks.

Can we PLEASE give up the Rudy Gay talk. It happened, what 2 and half years ago? Its dead, done, and until we can build a time machine, its gonna stay that way. Leave it.

Brewer - 6'7" 235lb athletic guard-forward who shoots 55% from the field, is money from midrange, plays D, plays teamball, hits his freethrows, can actually finish at the rim and on the break, and is on a rookie scale contract

Battier - 6'8" 220lb unathletic forward who shoots less than 50% from the field and lacks the ballhandling skills to play guard, is streaky with outside shooting despite getting wide open looks courtesy of Yao/Tmac, is unreliable from the FT stripe, hasn't dunked since 2003, is on the wrong side of 30 with wear & tear injuries, and is being paid $6M+ per annum

if you have anything relevant to add i'm all ears......but this pipe joke bs doesn't qualify.

Yeah because Brewer is anywhere close to shutting down the likes of Kobe as Battier can

Oh, "Battier hasn't dunked since 2003"...now we get to the heart of your displeasure for Battier.

Somebody tell Battier to dunk for Pippendagimp, so he can be as good as Ronnie Brewer one day.

    The insanity...it just doesn't stop.

I don't think it has anything to do with actually dunking but the ability to finish strong. Shane can't take the contact and finish the way that Brewer can. I think Brewer is getting close to as good as Battier and in time will probably pass him in overall production. Shane is a very smart player and he does the best he can despite his lack of athleticism. It's not far fetched to say a guy who is already just as good (or better) offensively, more athletic, and constantly improving defensively will soon surpass Battier.

I know everyone loves to cheer for the guy who plays the right way but this is sports. Lets not forget athleticism matters.

He should have busied himself with more promos and talk shows in China seeing as the reason to his setback is that he insisted on rehabing too rigorously for his own good.

One thing, for me Brewer's defense is anywhere close to Shane's. And they are completly different players. Brewer will cut and get dunks, layups and Shane will wait for 3s.

Brewer just can't shoot as Shane can, and Shane isn't as athletic as Brewer.

Ok. This is sports. Athleticism matters. The Rockets would be better with Brewer than Battier. You got me. Brewer can jump higher, how could I be so stupid? I should have thought of that.

Just get out of here, pippendagimp. It's easy to see that you are just trying to stir up some trouble and controversy. Battier is noted all over the NBA for the things he brings to the table and I am sure the Rockets knew what they were doing when they traded for him. If you STILL have a problem with the trade, try to get a job as a Rockets GM, become owner by buying out Les, or call Rockets management and tell them how you feel. Man, some people just feed off of starting crap. Most people around here a pretty darn happy on what Battier brings to the Rockets. :)
