That hot Asian chick from Fresh off the Boat was complaining about the white-washing too.

The Last Samurai was a really good movie IMO. But it was not about the white man saving the Samurai or the Japanese. It was how the "Last Samurai" saved the soul of a lost white man who was in the process of drinking himself to death. That movie was properly cast and shot well.

Why in the hell would anyone cast Matt Damon as a Chinese man when there are plenty of Chinese men who would have been willing to play the role and would have done a great job. I may give this movie a try if it ever ends up on netflix but I doubt I will ever spend a dime actually renting or going to the theatre to see it. Few things screw up a good movie worse the miscast actors. Damon is clearly miscast.

The first thing I thought of after watching the trailer was John Wayne playing Genghis Khan.

Considering the progress of dragons have made in cinema over the previous two decades, this film is a considerable step back. Going from a string of very well-written and diverse characters to simple one-note stereotypical villains.

Still have no idea why Matt Damon was cast and why he even participated in this movie lol. It bombed at the box office with $18 million and had a production budget of $150 million. No I did not see this movie nor do I plan on it.

It seems like the ultimate ending would have been if the Japanese were invading and being led by a black Tom Cruise.

    Because they offered him money.

It hasn't bombed. It has already made it's money back and more.

Yeah $171 mill in China alone plus like $60 mil in other territories. Not a flop but China has questionable tastes. I've decided.

He probably did it for the money. It is a Chinese movie and it's made 260 mil.

The company that did that was a subsidiary of Legendary Entertainment. Legendary East.

You need the right guys that knew his agent and Zhang Yimou's name dropped.

    Also this cannot hurt ;)

Has anyone seen it yet? I've read the reviews (ouch), but am curious what the average Clutchfans person thinks. We had a pretty extensive thread dedicated to the reviews and box office performance of Warcraft, so someone on this board has to be obsessed with Matt Damon to the same degree, right?

Sounds like it's worth a look, gaiz.

"The Great Wall would probably be a lot more culturally offensive if it wasn’t such a complete train wreck.

... it’s played fairly straight — an odd choice, considering that the Nameless Order’s top soldiers look like they raided the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers wardrobe department and the army’s female warriors, who take wicked jumps off the top of the wall in battle, are a weirdly giggly bunch.
    ...
A lot of the visual effects, though, are third-rate at best and look chintzy for a movie aiming for an epic scale. Even the [monsters] are underwhelming, lacking any fearsome factor.

It’s hard to determine what kind of accent Damon was going for here — it’s an ever-changing concoction of British, Scottish, Irish and original-recipe Damon — but he seems out of place."

So, this movie is called "Matt Damon Sold Out"? I get it. I guess he had a bet with Ben Affleck on who could hold out on selling out first. Ben took his with Batman. Matt took his with whatever he is. Good financial moves by both guys. Bad career moves for legitimate acting.
