$70 a year to get access and i think it's well worth it. Especially with the Rockets tanking for the next 2-3 years.

Re-drafting the Lottery Picks from the 2021 NBA Draft

We’re just past the halfway point of the NBA season, and it’s time to check in on the top rookies from the 2021 draft class.

While it’s easy to do Rookie of the Year rankings

    — Evan Mobley is in the lead while Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham and Franz Wagner supporters have a case as well — I want to do something a bit more challenging: a re-draft for the lottery teams in the 2021 NBA Draft.

ROY rankings look back and tell you what has happened. With a re-draft, we’re focused on the future and what is to come for each player.

So I’m taking the approach most NBA teams — though not all — take toward the draft: What would be the best outcome for these teams in the next five years?

The Pistons, like almost every other team in the league, seemed all-in on Cade Cunningham from the beginning of the draft process. There was some flirting with Jalen Green, and a source close to the process told me Detroit general manager Troy Weaver was very high on Evan Mobley but that Weaver couldn’t get much traction with the rest of the front office and ownership.

Given Cunningham’s play in the first half of the season, they didn’t make a bad pick.

But could it have been better? I think so.

Mobley clearly has a higher ceiling than Cunningham.

Mobley started the season hot and continues to be awesome for a rookie, especially on the defensive end, where his unique combination of length, size and agility make him the seventh-ranked defender in the NBA (minimum 1,000 minutes), according to RAPTOR, FiveThirtyEight’s player-rating metric. By that measure, Mobley is in the same league as Draymond Green and ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo this season.

He can defend everywhere, and he brings such a unique physical profile to the table that he feels like the type of prospect that comes along only a couple of times in a generation.

Offensively Mobley has been pretty good, but not great. He moves the ball well but he’s still figuring out his stretch game, shooting just 30.5% from 3-point range. If he ever gets that into the 38-40% range, he may be as unbeatable as he is on the defensive end.

Not sure how someone screws up a redraft but Chad Ford did it some how.

Barnes over Cade? I still take Cade at 2. Barnes nice though.

Duarte and Sengun could be higher.

    Green at 8, can't crack top 5.

I’m taking Cade Cunningham over Scottie Barnes with no hesitation

Cade would be averaging 7 apg as a rookie if he was on the Rockets…we have better shooting and spacing, play at a faster pace, and Wood is far more skilled than any big Detroit has

    Cade

    EG
    Tate
    Wood

The Rockets wouldn't take Scottie Barnes over Cunningham...... Kuminga and Suggs wouldn't go over Green.... neither would Giddy or Wagner.

Also the idea that "Green could be in the top 5 in two years" is kind of a no brainer.

I like Chad Ford personally but he is wrong a lot.... he was wrong on Mobley and Barnes and apparently thinks he was wrong on Green too, having him at 8th now.

full disclosure, I am President and head of the advisory board for the Cade Cunningham fan club…bias aside, I think he will be averaging 20+ points, 6-8 boards, and 6-8 assists by year 3 or surely by year 4…he’s a good shooter, has displayed excellent leadership qualities, has high BBIQ, and is already solid defensively

my comp for him was Jayson Tatum with better playmaking

I don't understand how he was wrong on Mobley and Barnes? He was VERY high on Barnes VERY early when all the talk was Cunningham, Green and Mobley. And even then he was a Mobley guy.

    ‍♂️

I would have Mobley/Cade/Barnes locked into the top 3

After that Green would still go ahead of the rest of the players at #4.

    A re-draft is probably

    1. Mobley 2. Cade 3. Green

Maybe you could argue Barnes into that category but...

You don't give up on those three guys who were said to be clearly above everyone else because of a half of a season. Especially when looking at their situations. Green is clearly in the worst one where he is being thrown in the corner and given close to no garbage minutes to get comfortable. The concerns about Mobley's size were oversold and the concerns about Green's size were undersold. I'm fairly confident that by the end of the year Green will be discussed with those two as the clear best in the draft.

He didn't have Mobley ahead of Cunningham and I believe he had Green as a better prospect by the time the draft came about. As for Barnes, he clearly had him below the other three and said he was concerned he wouldn't ever score enough.

You can make an argument for Barnes third but there is no way Green slides past 4th if the draft were held again today.

I think if a redraft was done, Green would fall a LOT further than 3. Now that people see just how raw and how much of a long term project he is, he might still go top 10, but probably not top 5.

Cade struggled early on but he's making me a believer in fulfilling that two-way potential. I'd take him 2nd but Barnes wouldn't be a bad pick either.

He's going to average that next year, my man.

But I would still take the 6'7 dude with a 7'3 wingspan and a thicc athletic defensive frame.

Honestly i wouldn't care between the two.

I think it was, what, two weeks ago that we had a discussion on this board about the same thing and I had him as a toss up at 5 with Giddey. Now...I think I'm in agreement with you he'll be somewhere in the top 10.

He would still go in the top 5.
