It's wonderful news. We all wish every story such as Carroll's had such a good ending for the kidnap victim. The kidnappings never having taken place, along with the attendant casualties, would be an even better situation. Those like Carroll mean only to be helpful to the people of Iraq, by reporting their stories, regardless of the politics involved. Reporting from Iraq has become so dangerous that the ability to go out into the field to cover any story, regardless of the kind of story and it's political ramifications, is fraught with danger. I admire those willing enough to still make the attempt. A free press remains one of the strongest bulworks of our political system, with the Forth Estate providing checks and balances of it's own. When it's not allowed to do it's job, for whatever reason, or are manipulated for political ends, which has been attempted since the founding of the Republic, it is cause for great concern. Needless to say, I'm concerned. Keep D&D Civil.
There have been several civilians that only went to Iraq to help the Iraqi people, but ended up kidnapped and beheaded.
i'm just happy that she is out of custody and free, hopefully she won't have any severe trama from her ordeal.
You're right and that is the saddest part of all of this. But thank God that Jill Carroll is free and able to return to her loved ones.
