Nah. I have a feeling Marbury will be one of the highlights on this squad. He's certainly underrated as a playmaker. The backcourt of Marbury and Iverson is going to be something to see. Marbury was #12 in the league in steals (1.75), #8 in assists (8.3), and #6 in PPG (21.3). All of which were better than Iverson. I'm not saying he's better than AI, who obviously had a nightmare season, but Marbury's far from being the weak link. If LB exploits the high post P&R with Duncan and these two guys, good luck to the world guarding that. Evan
The world have enough experience with P&Rs. If Big Ben is in, they might have a chance; if not, really tough.
I believe in terms of averages AI topped Marbury in both steals and points. It was totals were Marbury had the edge, since Iverson missed so many games. Even though it's not a dream team, the US should still be favored to win... If they're able to mesh as a unit...
Double-checked, you're right. Iverson averaged 2.4 last year, but was left out of the leaders on ESPN since he only played 48 games. Thanks! While the world has seen the pick and roll, they'll be trying to guard 2 of the quickest guys on the planet using it. They seriously should have a field day. Evan
Don't forget the world games allow players grabbing opponents' shirts. It is just more physical than the NBA game with respect to "hand movement". Isn't Yao used to hook to move the other center away in the world game and the technique is not allowed in the NBA? If a big international guard just grabs Iverson or Marbury, can they still move as fast?
They can still be fast when they smack the hands away, or use Yao's hook style to seperate them. Infact it really gives them an advantage since they it's easier for them to exploit space and than to create it.
