We were a Chris Paul injury & a few made 3pt shots away from beating GS. Capela was NOT the issue. When Golden State goes small, EVERYBODY has problems matching up with them, that's why it's their "death lineup". You're ignoring this while indirectly blaming Capela for us losing the series, which is grossly inaccurate. It doesn't constitute us winning a championship, but sure does constitute us GETTING to a championship. You really don't get it? You wanna change the whole fabric of the team by trading Capela. What about defensively? Who better can you get that'll control the paint, rebound without fouling at a high rate? We only lost 5 games with CP/Harden/Capela and you want to replace him smh
Not blaming Capela for us losing series. I have consistently said Capela cannot help us WIN the series. Wet have to sit him in crunch time against the Warriors death lineup.
So 37 pages later, has anything changed since page 1? Also, what happens if we don't offer capella anything more, and no other team offers him higher? I know we can match, but if nobody does, then he just says and he turns into a disgruntled asik 2.0?
Also, one thing people I think understand about a capella is his game is HEAVILY dependent on the guards around him. If he were to go to another team without an off the ball CP3/Harden player, capella would be exposed and would be nearly useless. That's why no other team is really going to consider him because they know that.
This is honestly the best option if he won't sign the $85 mil deal. You run him like a starter, you give him the ball and see what he can do this season and if he's great you give him a full max 5 year deal. It will be more than anyone can pay him by tens of millions. If he's not great then you have the option to pay him what he's worth on the market and if he leaves it will cost him money. If this is about money to Capela than it's time to nut up and play like an All-star because paying a non all-star $20 mil a year is horse ****.
Capela should be pissed at his agent. Rockets did tell him to go around the league and get the best deal. Instead it seems his agent got zero deals. Not the Rockets fault, since they would've matched. Not sure what Capela is waiting for...the market has dried up and only 1 team can realistically offer him the contract he wants...the Kings. Is he just waiting on the Kings...? or for the Rockets to budge? He's not a max player, and judging by his zero contract offers, the league feels the same. He should just take what the Rockets offered and be happy or else he will be in a long year of uncertainty and may get absolutely effed over like his agents former client D-Mo or Nerlens Noel. We see it happen all the time. Look at what happened to Isiaiah Thomas in a year. Went from demanding a max to singing for a vet minimum. Capela gets his numbers because he's playing with 2 of the best playmakers in the game putting him in the best position. Hopefully he realizes this and doesn't get too greedy.
So you're suggesting we trade Capela simply because Golden State's death line up? You do realize the only way to match that lineup is with PJ Tucker at center. So never mind we're pretty much unstoppable with Clint against any other NBA team. You're advocating Capela get traded soley because he can't matchup with Draymond Green which is stupid
That's one of the reasons. The other reason is there is a GLUT of big men in the NBA. PRECIOUS FEW teams are trying to find a 5. MANY TEAMS already have a young big on a rookie contract AND ALSO a vet big on a negative value contract. The teams that don't...mostly have their center of the present and future already locked up. And there's more bigs flooding the market every year! In an era where teams are trending to small ball lineups!!!! What this huge GLUT of big men means is that if we have Capela locked up on a long term deal and we need to make a trade......it will be difficult to trade him without including assets to simply dump him. Signing Capela to a big money long term deal is a recipe for landlocking our salary cap flexibility. We've already got one guy on a huge deal who has extremely negative trade value. If we sign Capela to a big money deal were essentially STUCK! We're limiting how much better we can become next season and the season after that! LOOK AT THE WARRIORS!!!! Are they spending huge dollars on 5's that can't shoot?!?!?!? NO! They're not! That ought to tell you something. The only way we can afford to keep Capela is on a contract that we can trade and at least get fair value for. In other words a market neutral contract that we can trade for equivalent salary and talent without giving up a bunch of picks and young player assets to move. When you combine this market factor with the FACT that Capela does not match up positively with the Warriors lineup of death that's a double whammy. We pay him big money long term with no means of escape like a team option and non-guaranteed money and it will be our contract of death when it comes to winning championships! For the life of me I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU AND OTHERS CAN'T SEE THIS!!!!
Vet big men on bad negative value contracts: Mozgov Noah Kanter Biyombi Mahinmi Thompson Asik Plumlee Plumlee2 Ibaka Valanciunas Whiteside (max) Drummond (max) Dieng Favors Pau Young bigs on rookie deals: KAT Kristaps Poltl Bam Ellenson Kaminsky Robert Williams Thon Maker Jarret Allen Mo Bamba Jonathan Isaac Myles Turner Sabonis Leaf Rich Holmes Wendell Carter jr. John Collins Jordan Bell Papagiannis Zach Collins Zizic Jaren Jackson jr Tony Bradley Hernangomez Lyles Mo Wagner Zubac Ayton Bender WCS Bagley Giles Deyonta Davis Labissiere Bigs on max/near max deals Anthony Davis Jokic Lamarcus Horford Drummond Whiteside Embiid Marc Gasol Gobert Adams (That's 10 max contract bigs with another two, kat and kristaps, getting ready to join them.) Not to mention middle of the road guys like: Gortat Boban Nurlic DJ Kosta Zeller Henson Vucevic KOQ Robin Lopez Udoh Powell Mejri And I'm not even going to list all the low salary vets like brook and Nerlens. THERE IS A HUGE GLUT OF BIGS!
How soon they forget! Capela was a critical part of our success last year. His soft hands and ability to run the PnR opened our offense up so much last year. He anchored our defense too! Protected the rim and was mobile enough to allow us to run a switch-heavy defense. Does he have flaws to his game? Yes, of course. But he's shown remarkable growth EVERY year he's been in the league, and outplayed two of the brightest young Centers these past playoffs. He was also one of the few players we could even play at all by the end of the WCF. Sure Draymond neutralized him somewhat, but that's what Dray does. At least the threat of the lob kept Draymond somewhat honest in his rotations. He is worth more than $15 MM/year, and he isn't being petulant or unreasonable for trying to negotiate for more. Even in the most cynical sense, you need to lock him up for a few years (at $15-20 MM per year) so that you can extract the most value out of this asset. At the QO, Capela has very little trade value. Unless a promising SnT opportunity arises, there should be no hesitation to bring Capela back. That doesn't mean I think we should run it back as is, just that Capela can be a meaningful part of the team that challenges the Warriors this upcoming season. Adding Melo and another rotation piece that can create off the dribble and switch on D (i.e. James Johnson, Bazemore) can really move the needle this year, without blowing up the infrastructure of a team that got us to 65 wins and the 7th game of the WCF, which getting rid of Capela (and Ariza and MBah), would do!
Capela has zero leverage. Rockets have a fair offer out there. Its going to be a waiting game to see who caves first. Houston has no incentive too as they can find a replacement next summer if need be.
Just saw Mr Capella in Walgreens at Montrose and Westheimer with his guys. Too star struck to ask about his contract. Got a pic or two. Very cordial and gracious. That is all. Edit: Here he is. I cropped myself out because you don't need to see my ugly @ss.
