Why would either of them agree to be locked up? Wouldn't they be better off just signing a G League contract? What they want is to have NBA teams bidding serious money on them.

How did this scrub end up with a guaranteed deal?

I legit have never seen anything remotely worthy about this dude.

Depends on what other teams offer . Guys that haven't broken into the NBA might be willing to take a 2-3 year guaranteed deal vs shopping around for 1 year.

I doubt either player is going to get "serious money"

If they sign two way contracts, they can gain NBA experience too, and if they prove to be surprisingly outstanding, they could even get a guaranteed contract.

If they dominate the G League, they might.

    GMs want cost controlled players.

    Players want the big deal.

If Duval becomes a average NBA starting 1, he will want to avoid a cost controlled contract. If Duval believes in himself, he might want to invest in himself by spending 1 or 2 years in the G League or Europe, on short term contracts.

And un-drafted player becoming an average starter in a year or 2 is incredibly unlikely.

Duval will likely face decent interest from NBA teams this year as a two way guy on different number of years .

Even if he dominates the g-league he isn't going to get more than a 2-3 3 million per deal .

He has to weigh the security of have guaranteed money this year vs trying to play in a g-league salary and hoping he gets better offers in the future.

No one thought enough of him to pick him in the second round . His summer league performance has piqued my interest and I think he has a good amount of upside , but he's a big project . And any team that signs him will want to have some upside themselves.
