California Supreme Court Strikes Down Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Marriage is an administrative tool originally meant to track paternity, distribute property, forge alliances and provide economically for women. The church is associated with it because the church used to be the bureaucratic arm of the government: recording births and deaths (baptisms and funerals), swearing in government officials (coronations) and shaping and enforcing laws. Marriage being a function of romantic love or morality is a secondary concept that evolved over time; it's always been and always will be government's business.

 

Just because "Gay bashing" is an article on Wikipedia. Geez, so sensitive!

 

This is why I argue for civil unions for everyone.

 

But you see, the conservative Christians that are against gay marriage don't want that. Why? Because there are churches liberal enough to allow homosexuals to marry in their church. Removing government from the equation and leaving churches to marry (or not marry) who they want would result in gays getting married. In this instance, anti-homosexual conservatives want and need government to intervene to get their way.

 

Why are conservatives so threatened by gays? Maybe they should focus on contributing to something useful instead of suggesting we get the Dutch to build dams?

 

DOJ won't defend DOMA, at least some sections.
