Petty is one CB blitz away from being a QB Coach at Baylor... Whomever brought up Blake Sims name as a possible QB draft pick needs to repent...

Didn't the Bills trade their 1st rounder away to get Watkins?

You're right. That pick is going to the Browns. So the Texans are really the only QB desperate team in the bottom half of the first round unless you think Cleveland is going to draft 1st round QBs in consecutive years.

Not likely but not out of the question, either.

If the Texans like Connor Cook, they could get the word out quietly that they'll pick him in the first round if he declares....

Kiper pushing Petty as the third QB off the board and projects him to be a second round pick potentially. We'll see.

Last year his final mock had Manziel going 7th, Bortles going 20th.

In short, history would prove that you are as likely to know more about the future prospects of these guys than Mel is. He's a talking head.

Reads only one side of the field. Product of the system ala Kevin Kolb, Case Keenum, RGIII, & all those Texas Tech QB's under Leech.

That size. I still think that he could go in the second.

LZ said this morning that Petty hasn't impressed at all at the Senior Bowl...and that the guys he talks to think he's going in the 4th round at best.

I will say that I think if he's still on the board when the Texans pick in the 4th round, that he's well worth the gamble. He can make all the throws...question is can he adapt to a pro style offense out of Briles' system.

Yeah, I'm hearing that he's struggling some.

If he has a 4th round grade, we need to pass. We already have a mid to late round project in Savage. We need legit talent at the QB position.

That's kind of the predicament. How often can you invest in QBs that need time to develop? Are you comfortable with either as the primary backup at this point? Because we're not going to carry more than 3 QBs on the roster. So you either have your starter with a 2nd year player and a rookie behind him. Or you abruptly pull the plug on Savage to make room for Petty.

And what does Petty really have over Savage? Experience. And production in a system that doesn't usually translate well to the pros. Savage has the better size and the better arm. Both still need to learn how to operate in an NFL offense.

I don't see the Texans taking another mid-round QB. First 2 rounds, if one is available, then yes. But after that? Eh. . .

That's actually really logical. I agree.

That is what I am thinking
How is he an upgrade from Savage?

    Bryce Petty, Baylor

Bryce Petty called himself the best quarterback in the draft. More like the best quarterback on the third day of the draft. Petty had his struggles in the Senior Bowl and did nothing to improve his draft stock.

Aside from an interception, Petty had the best stats of any quarterback in the Senior Bowl, going 9-of-13 for 123 yards. The pick was nearly returned for a score, throwing the ball behind his target. Petty, however, was nearly picked on the first drive, but that wasn't his fault, as there was a miscommunication with the tight end. He then overthrew Justin Hardy by three yards out of bounds for a potential touchdown. Late in the game, Petty had a nice completion, but missed an open tight end early in the play and had to escape the pocket.

There's a chance Petty will be chosen in the third round, but he'll likely be taken in the fourth frame. The transition from Baylor's offense could prove to be too much, and unlike Marcus Mariota, Petty doesn't have the physical talent to compensate for it.

2015 NFL Draft Projection: 3rd-4th Round

I think Petty is one of the best QB's in this class......but that's really more an indictment of the QB class than it is an endorsement of Petty's skill.

I heard that Petty has accuracy problems. That is a red flag for me, since accuracy is something you have or don't.
