Elway only wants players that want to be there. If he doesn't take a paycut then he just doesn't want to be there.
Kap doesn't believe in himself. He knows he's a piece of garbage and may not recoup the $4.9 million. IMO, decent chance this coming season is his last.
Man am I enjoying the bronco fan meltdown. Had one friend who is a life long fan explain to me why they're better off with Butt Fumble than Osweiler. He also tried to tell me how great of a head coach Kubiak is and that he won't, in any way, be exposed when actually forced to coach. They got the title and I respect that. But their fans are ignoring what's happening. This is almost on the level of the Marlins after their titles. The only difference is that the Marlins did it on purpose. The Broncos are losing players left and right because those players don't want to be there. Seems strange coming off of a title...
He can keep the 4.9 and have a good season in Chip Kelly's offense and keep getting paid. No way should he take a cut.
Elway is being cheap at QB, under the assumption that he can get by with defense. That happened last year, but it's very contrary to the recent history of the NFL.

I will be shocked if he has a good season under Chip Kelly. Chip loves to run the ball but if Kap is terrible as a passer, their offense is dog meat. Kap has made it clear he doesn't want to play for Chip. i don't see any reason for optimism.
No he hasn't. He has made clear he doesn't like the organization itself and particularly how the GM and ownership treated him last year. I think he'd love to play for Chip Kelly. He wants out but also knows that no one will trade for his now-guaranteed contract - so if he's not willing to take a paycut, he's implicitly telling everyone that he's OK with playing for the 49ers. Saying someone doesn't believe in themselves for not being willing to take a pay cut is just stupid. He signed a contract and has every right to hold a team to it. Besides, playing on a one year deal and taking his chances in free agency next offseason could be argued as the definition of believing in himself.
A lot of people felt that Kubiak and not the crappy Texans roster he had to deal with was the problem
I thought it was arrogant of Elway to assume that Kap would give up a pretty big chunk of change guaranteed in a league famous for having little guaranteed money. Having said that, if Kap really believed that the Broncos were a better long term bet for his career and earnings, he would have made the move. That is to say had Kap been convinced he would put up 1000 yards and 8-9 touchdowns in Denver, he would be a Bronco because he would have made up for it 10 fold after the season. Now, is it because Kap believes he will do as well or better this season in San Francisco? Probably... and it very well may be that Kelly's offense is a better or more comfortable fit than Kubiak's.... The Broncos were going to run the ball as much as any team in the league this year, with or without Kap.
Broncos trade Clady + 7th rounder to the Jets for a 5th rounder. Trade clears out almost 9M in cap space.
