Bring him in to match up Bynum or Powell and let him shoot 3's in the flow of the game.

I can't wait to see Cook matched up with Chris Anderson if we make it to the next round, rendering the Birdman's shotblocking ineffective by drawing him out of the paint.

Cook used to have marginal value as a utility player. He is definitely a positive personality, solid locker room guy, etc... but watching him play its painfully obvious that as a player he is resigned in the fact that this is his final contract. He looks out of shape, has gone from slow laterally to jaw droppingly cringe-worthily slow laterally. He has NO quickness to the extent that its embarrassing to watch him try and attain a loose ball outside of his 2ft radius.

Once a 3pt specialist he is now a cap matcher specialist and will not play in the NBA after this contract.

Cook should go practice "how to land awkwardly on someone's foot" and make good use of the technique next game.

Come on Cook, you are a zero and this is your chance to be a hero. Don't you remember the old times when Kobe gave you the elbow of motivation in the locker room?

Durvasa, shouldn't the loss of Yao dictate that we play more slashing but less 3pointers, since the Lakers will likely be focused more on the outside instead of clogging the lane?

is there something I missed here? :)

Need to use Cook in the same role that Scalabrine with the Celtics has. Pick n Pop all day to the 3 pt line. Cook can shoot an shoot better and IMO is way better than Scalabrine and somehow the Celtics find useful ways to get Scalabrine effective playing time.

Exactly! Since there is no yao getting guys shots and we have 2 guys that no laker can stay in front, u create more creases by having cook out there. U could run 1-4 high or low challenge gasol or bynum to get out to the 3pt line after trying to contain penetration.

The Lakers defense, at least in game 4, was focused on clogging the paint to allowing more perimeter shots. I'm not saying the Rockets should just swing the ball around the perimeter until they get an open shot. It needs to start with penetration and ball movement, you draw in the defense, and then you kick it out. If the opening is there inside to get a score at the basket, take it. but Penetrators need to be looking for the 3-point shooters as well. If we don't have a decisive edge on made 3s, I don't think we have a chance of winning this series.

I'm not taking cook off the hook, but its hard to stay in shape when don't play. Especially for a big guy with very limited practice time. I always thought he could play a role. Yao being gone, he can provide some quality minutes to give brooks and lowry a lot of court to use.

You wrote he should be getting minutes to help beat the front against Yao as well, right? What wouldn't be a good situation for him to be on the floor?

Who knows, maybe that's why Morey decided to get him in the first place. :)

And the truth to why we kept Von Wafer comes out! (He's played for Portland, LA, and Denver -- our opponent when we make the next round ;))

He's a situational player like hayes and barry. He provides a skill that no ther rockets big man can provide. I think when u have the fronting defense vs yao, u want slashers and guys that can increase the travel distance. No that yao is gone, u still want the same thing for brooks and lowry. They have proven that La can't stay in front of them. So now when u bring in the 2nd unit, he gives lowry more space.

Can I interpret this as "penetration-than-pass-out" is likely to result more/better open 3 pointer opportunities than "pass-to-Yao-than-pass-out"? or did I misread again? :)

very interesting points as I always assumed it was the contrary... maybe we could do some researches on how much open 3 opportunities are created in these two different systems sometime? :)
