Roy to have knee surgery, will miss playoffs

    Posted Apr 15 2010 8:44PM

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy will have surgery on Friday and will miss the playoffs.

Roy, who averaged 21.5 points, needs the surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

The three-time All-Star was injured in Portland's 91-88 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers last Sunday. He missed Portland's final two regular season games.

Roy originally said that he would try to play on the knee for the playoffs. Sixth-seeded Portland plays the third-seeded Suns in the first round starting on Sunday in Phoenix.

Portland knew they didn't have a chance against arguably the hottest team going into the playoffs... They'll put up a fight though.

I didn't think he was fully healed from his previous injury. Result: a more devastating injury. This year has really been trying for Portland and their fans.

Adelman must be giving Portland some tips on how to become like the Rockets. Roy and Oden are the next T-mac and Yao.

What a sad thing to say, especially since Portland has had it way worse than the Rockets. Other than Yao Ming, the Rockets were entirely healthy until around the all star break.

Nah..im talkin bout recent years like that 05-06 season or 07-08. We've had it way worse. Yao Ming had 3 straight seasons cut short because of injuries.

Going to be rough for Portland if Roy starts having a lot of knee problems early on in his career. I feel for them though, it's a b**** not having your star players healthy.

Now's your chance to shine Rudy. Such a backwards unfortunate year for them, back in 2008 I was thinking they'd be near dynasty mode by now.

Rockets would put up a better fight.

    I hope he recovers well.

I guess they're lucky they're not playing the Mavs then. They play Phoenix in the first round.
