You should check out Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It's probably my favorite book I've read over the last five years. The book is set in Barcelona, so that's right up your alley. A prequel novel is coming out this summer and is definitely my most anticipated novel of the year.
Was awaiting your recommendation. Hopefully I can find it here in New Zealand in the next couple of days so I have something to read on the plane as my vacation is coming to an end.
I second that. If you liked the Brothers Karamazov, you should read more Dostoevsky. I've read almost all of his work and I like it all.
Malcolm Gladwell's new book Outliers and any other books you haven't read from him. Entertaining stuff.
I got Outlier's for christmas but have not read it yet. I liked Blink though. Recently read by me: The Discoverers by Boorstin Knife of Dreams by Jordan New Spring by Jordan The Essays collection by Gore Vidal The man who knew too much (Turing) by Leavitt Currently reading: The God Delusion by Dawkins The Universe in a Nutshell by Hawking and slogging my way through Chomsky on Anarchism
Just some favorites off the top of my head: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll Motley Crue: The Dirt The Heroine Diaries by Nikki Sixx Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes And I agree: anything by Dostoevsky is good.
The Time Traveler's Wife is pretty interesting. My wife read it, cried a lot, and convinced me to pick it up. I finished it last weekend. I have no idea how they are going to make a movie out of it. I second Water For Elephants. Good book.
I really enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife. It's not sci-fi at all. It's the story of a couple, one of whom randomly travels backwards and forwards in time before returning to his main timeline. I definitely cried at the end. I've heard some claim it was gimmicky, but if you accept the time traveling aspect, it is a really beautiful story. I think the movie will suck and have no plans on seeing it. I'm always disappointed in film adaptations of novels. They never capture the nuances of a good story. I got Water for Elephants as a Christmas gift and am looking forward to reading it.
Oh, despite its length, read ATZEC by Gary Jennings. Its like an acid trip of historical violence and sex, and it reads well.
