We are so vain when it comes to politics. FDR was one of our best presidents and was in a wheelchair. Lincoln was ugly as sin. The POTUS position in our government is a decision making role. There's very little if anything physical about the role, but our modern day media has turned the presidency into daily episode of the Kardashians. It's freaking stupid.
The media is certainly complicit, but one of these candidates has been lying about his weight for years, claims that he's incredibly strong and justifies not exercising because he believes the human body is like a battery and has a finite amount of stamina.
It's sort of chicken or the egg with Trump/Media/vain reality tv politics. Was Trump plugged into the political ecosystem because our media & parties were aching for vain reality tv type of personalities or did Trump change it? Part of me thinks the Democrats could have taken the bait in 2015, and nominated Snookie from Jersey Shore and she would have been just as successful at captivating the media in a way that got her the type of power that Trump has with the GOP. Maybe i've become just that cynical, but if you would have told me in 2008 that reality TV star Donald Trump would be leading the Republican party after becoming president, attempting a coup to stay in power after losing, and then campaigning on becoming a dictator on day 1, I absolutely would believe in the same vein that Snookie from Jersey Shore could also be a presidential candidate.
