I’m getting 30 campaign texts a day from random ass people. He started this crap. this is a bipartisan **** you too. Because somehow both sides have my number.
I was just in McAllen for a few days and there were "vote for Beto" signs everywhere, which left me kind of confused. Apparently there is a Beto Vella and a Beto Salinas and God knows how many other Betos down there. I get tons of emails from Republicans and tons of texts from Dems, but sometimes the Dems call me by my actual name, and sometimes they call me Rose, which definately isn't my name. Examples: BTW, politicians managed to write exemptions for themselves into all the do not call list laws. Funny how that works. Honestly, my wife was watching local news last night and the attack ads were more revolting than anything that shows up on my phone.
Its highly obnoxious. Endless emails, phone calls, and texts. So much for privacy. Government is getting worse than telemarketers. Hopefully the carriers eventually stand up against this ****.
I get more repub ones, which I assume I’m on a list from when I did some campaign work in 2010 and 2012... but the left is hitting me too. I’m just replying EAD to everyone.
Yeah.... they certainly didn't get my phone number or email from any political forms as I don't give out my number and I use an old yahoo email if I have to include one.
Good article on how to stop spam texts: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-block-robotexts-and-spam-messages
2 so far this morning. Assholes don’t even care about the day of the lord! Neither do I... but still.
i cant believe anyone thinks this is an effective campaign tactic. all it does is piss people off. when you ask them why they do this they say its so they can inform people of when the vote is or that they are trying to gauge public opinion. total BS response imo. you can tell one to take you off their list, but then you get 10 more from other campaigns. there doesnt seem to be a way to get off their central database that individual campaigns get #'s from. im not a democrat or a member of the DNC, but i guess at some point i gave my phone number out to the wrong person and then i got put on some mass distribution list. its been constant since 2016. i find that democrats text and call and republicans send spam email. i get a similar amount from both sides, but the texts/calls are far more intrusive and annoying.
Unfortunately the rules around text messaging require written consent for automated texts but no consent is required if a person is actually manually typing out and sending the text. So you just have armies of people blasting text messages to everyone. This is one of those cases where Congress hasn't really kept up with rulemaking and the FCC is basically applying a law that was written for robocalls to text messages. But that law doesn't account for the ease and obtrusiveness of text messaging. Then again, Congress hasn't really passed substantive laws in 10 years so we shouldn't be shocked by this.
I would rather die than help anyone that sends me an unsolicited text to help a campaign. Too bad their algorithms can’t determine who has my mindset.
I'm getting a bunch of campaign texts including for people who aren't me but other Asians. Apparently MoveOn thinks all Asians are the same.. I'm also getting texts and emails for races for districts I don't live in including for WI.
