I did. And I am disappointed. Everything pointed to him winning..and I dont mean just the polls. The angry black man approach would not helped him at all.
I love how you conveniently left out how a Texas House Democrat won re-election from his jail cell. Cuz only 'dem rethuglikkkans elect like sh*t right
I really like him, ever since the first video about him answering a question about NFL players kneeing. He is a leader and I hope he can be the next president for this country. Being said that, the Dems really need to have a good strategy for him to be successful, he will be a fine president but under this current sh'tty vote system and politics, its hard for him to get there.
I can go along with that. Brown might make an interesting Speaker of the House and I think he has shown interest in the past...
The only reason I didn't list him is I never heard the story. But sure, he shouldn't be in office. I am good with Menendez and this Texas House member getting booted from office. You good with the republicans getting booted out?
I'm fine with 95% of political outcomes because I believe in our Republic and the right we have to elect people to office. You'll never see me raging in these forums about politics, only defending my views. May I point out that you may have never heard of this story because of where you choose to get your information? Doesn't matter anyways lol
Or perhaps, because he was a local politician and not a U.S. Senator or Representative. Naahhh, its be cause I only get my news from one or two sources.
It's a pretty popular story my man. AND it's in Texas, dead playboy dude who was found by Ron Jeremy was Nevada but you've heard of that.
It may have been pretty popular in your town, but until you mentioned I hadn't heard the story. But compared to a dead brothel owner winning? Last, I posted the guy should be booted from office. You seem to have no position, on him, the two U.S. Senators under indictment, or even the dead guy.
As a self described independent, what are your thoughts on lefties like Bernie and Beto vs Left-center like Biden and Bloomberg? Pollsters showed Bernie pulling a lot of independents back in 2015/16.
Why should I speak out and condemn something that's obviously bad? Why should you assume that because I haven't yet denounced p*rn Boy, or many other indicted re-elected officials on this board, that I hold no position or support them? This forum isn't the super thought-provoking groupthink you may think it is so I rarely engage here.
Beto is already pulling dead even on most gambling sites for odds-on favorite to win the 2020 nomination. Quite a leap from a nobody. If I didn't know better, I would think the Democrats are trying to recreate Obama. Beto has the hype. He's viral and he has credentials (none) and the face. He would be the Justin Trudeau this country needs. A socialist overlord who will make all of our hippie dreams come true. Free love. Free weed. Free abortions... The best part would be when Beto takes all the guns away, dissolves the NRA by making them all gay, and makes all Republicans go through cis-gender sensitivity training before being allowed the privilege of going to a prestigious golf course.
And the dead brothel owner had either an HBO or a Showtime series about his "bunny ranch" so he was pretty well known. But, I don't really have a problem with someone voting for a dead person if they are really voting to have the position filled by appointment.
Likely because of it, Democrats and liberals already have to fight stereotypes of idealism and impracticality that having a less than fully experienced candidate would reinforce, and Republican operatives and legislators are basically the Nation of Islam after Malcolm left.
Beto is great but he does one thing amazingly well and it might well be the most important thing. Dude can raise PAC level money without any PACs. That's impressive and like it or not money wins.
I think this is a little misleading but I don't disagree that he is a funding beast. His money included $77,441 from PAC funds. Whether indirect or direct.. which means funneled from other dems and their pacs. Also who needs PACs when you have huge corporate donors? That makes things a lot easier. I don't mind this actually since it is legal, but he is definitely misleading people about who is paying for his run and whose pockets he is in. He is going the grassroots champion of the people route, and clearly is another Obama type politician. Uses a lot of positive energy to gloss over his real self, which is super effective. I can see why people were eating out of his palm. Oh he is a fresh face, little popularized political baggage known of if you don't count his crimes, and he skate boards.... Oh and he says the nice things that people want to hear. Good face. Can he keep his energy up to 2020? He will run I think and he may be the guy who gets screwed by the DNC. There is always a youth appeal candidate... IE Howard Dean or Bernie, who is then swept aside for the DNC's chosen candidate. That said being that guy who corals the young people into the party line is a good role and would raise his profile for a run at Congress or even a Govenorship. You can see more about his funding here https://www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/summary?cid=N00033540
Bernie in particular I would have voted for because he was not likely to accomplish much of his agenda , much like Trump (think about that , the other than tax cuts what has he done legislatively - literally nothing which is fantastic) , if anything at all and he isn't near as abrasive as Trump. Despite the fact that I don't like the socialist plan of free college for everyone , I do like the focus on education and he wasn't off the rails stupid on gun control. Bernie pulled a lot of votes based upon Hillary being so unlikable. As I said upthread (or in another one) , its kinda fitting to compare Beto to him because they are both pretty far out there on policy and they are both running against the most unlikable candidates possible. Beto on the other hand , I couldn't vote for , that race could have altered the senate majority and we all but knew going in that the Dems would take the house and there was potential for several senate seats to flip - I wanted a split house / senate. Balance of power / checks and balances are important to me. In another situation , I may have voted for him , not for policy as I am diametrically opposed in that regard on several key issues but because I dislike Cruz so damn much. That dude has to be the third or fourth most disliked politician in America behind Trump , Hillary and Pelosi. I do like Beto the character …. You have to understand that the circumstances in each scenario are worlds apart …. I might vote for either or neither under different circumstances or against different opponents and there are times when I'd prefer this type of candidate to a more centrist one as gridlock is a good thing when you get right down to it. No legislation is better than bad legislation …. once legislation passes , you are stuck with it good , bad or ugly. Nothing is worse than poor legislation. Biden or Bloomberg …. it really depends upon the opposition candidate and their policy / score on the asshat abrasiveness scale / the makeup of the House and Senate. Either likely get my vote against someone like Trump unless the Dems control both the House and Senate , I'm not handing them a rubber stamp. I'll write in Thomas Jefferson or Mickey Mouse again rather than contribute to one party controlling the whole works. I might not be the typical independent voter , not thinking about a race in isolation …. I'm just a crazy Indian. (the native type).
If and whenever he decides to make a run for 2020, Beto O'Rourke will be the prohibitive nominee. He may be too liberal for Texas, but he is just right for the national scene. I hope he runs. I might even volunteer for his campaign in Nevada, something I've never done.
